lkjames1 Posted February 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2008 We have reservations at the Best Western Uptown in July. What would be the best way to get around for 4 days? We want to go to Grouse Mountain, Stanley Park, Granville Island, Gastown, Victoria, etc. Would it be best to rent a car or take public transportation. We will be arriving at Ballantyne Pier. Thanks for any suggestions!
LeftcoastBC Posted February 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2008 With the places you named without a doubt "Car Rental" Although downtown Vancouver and Victoria a walkable the flexibility that a vehicle would give your for a period of 4 days far outweighs any savings in public transportation as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure about the Bestwestern Location "Uptown" without looking it up myself but the only other thing to consider on the negative side would be the parking So don't forget that. Thanks for any suggestions! The Best Western Uptown is a block south of the corner of Main/Kingsway/Broadway. Depending on how many people you have, public transportation is pretty easy from there for your Vancouver stops. The 99 B-Line express bus runs east/west on Broadway, and lots of buses run north south on Main, and you can get anywhere quickly. If you're going to Victoria, realize that it is a day trip -- minimum (1hr drive + 2hr ferry + 1hr drive, each way), and that a car + 2 people will cost approx $65/ea way on the ferry. There are companies that do day bus trips, that may actually work out cheaper than driving yourself because of the cost of taking a car on the ferry. If there's only a couple of you, you may find out that buses+taxis will be a lot cheaper than renting a car, and removes the stress of driving around a busy city you might not be familiar with.
