Buchart Gardens and Walking

I have read a lot about Buchart Gardens on this site but no one talks about the walking? How much walking is involved - I have a knee problem and can't walk for extended distances. Do they offer sit down tours?

It can be a very trying walk for someone with a knee problem. The Butchart web-site says they offer a limited number of wheelchairs (first come first served) requiring a $10 deposit. It's a beautiful spot and if you can arrange for a chair, you will have a wonderful time.

The walking is not hard as it is over fairly level paths. Only one path down into the old quarry site is what I would term a hill and even that is not too bad. Have taken my Grandmother there and she had no problem with the walking. (when she was in her 80's)

There is a lot of walking -- I've been there three times. I suggest getting a wheel chair. It is a do not be missed location.

 

Also, if you are there on a Saturday night during the summer months beginning in June, be sure to check out their fire works show in the evening. It is a show done on the ground -- spectacular. Don't miss it.

I am stopping here in May with my 82yo mom. We really want to go here but my mom will need a w/c to walk around. Has anyone used one of their w/c and had trouble getting one? There is no way to predict how many people will need one on any particular day. I think there are two ships in port that day.

I would have said that many of the paths at Butchart are sloping (not steep but sloping none the less). If the wheelchair is not motorised, then the person pushing would have to be reasonably fit.
