jas4141 Posted February 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2008 I'm sure there are always a few cases of NV (stomach flu) aboard ships but we'll be boarding the Dawn on Mar 2 so just wondering if there is anything out of the ordinary that hasn't been reported here. A couple of years ago, it was rampant on the Celebrity Mercury for two previous cruises so was good to know what we were getting into prior to boarding. We did the cruise but were far more careful since we knew up front what was going on. Look forward to hearing from recent Dawn cruisers. Thanks. ahracer Posted February 22, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2008 We just got off her on Sunday and there was no problems I was aware of. You can't turn around without bumping into hand sanitizers on the ship.

CaliforniaAC Posted February 22, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2008 We leave March 2nd too. As I understand it, after the outbreaks in January, they did a very throrough cleaning of the ship. Yep... that means they even washed the bedspreads:rolleyes: . Some of the posts about that outbreak on the treads were a little scary. If we get on the ship and there is no salt & pepper shakers on the tables, no bread served at dinner, and you cannot serve yourself in the buffet, then that would be a hint that there is still a problem. We have never worried about it before, but this time we are going to bring disinfectant wipes and give our room the once over. Somehow, I can't believe we are doing this, but better safe than sick. jas4141 Posted February 22, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Thanks so much for the responses from those of you most recently cruising the Dawn. It's great news all around. Hand sanatizers are welcome and like you say, CaliforniaAC, we'll arm ourselves with disinfectants, hand wipes, etc. for added safety. We look forward to a wonderful trip...just wish we had the 3 additional ports that we had two years ago on the 11 day Mexican Riviera. Even with the NV that was an awesome trip and this will be, too. You can't turn around without bumping into hand sanitizers on the ship. Interesting about the hand sanitizers, this was one of our complaints about the Golden, they didn't have nearly as many as NCL and HAL. We were shocked, In fact there were almost none. They had them as you entered the butffet but no one there to encourage us to use them and I did see one rather hidden in one of the main dining rooms, nowhere else. On NCL they are in the casinos, the buffet has someone standing there encouraging you to use them, they squirt your hands when you come back from tours and every dining room has them in plain sight. This was pretty much the case on HAL as well. Nita

Toto2Kansas Posted February 23, 2008 #12 Share Posted February 23, 2008 I for one am just glad they make those hand sanitizers available now. I can remember back when the ONLY time they brought them out was IF there was an outbreak onboard. We were very happy to see that they have them now no matter what time of year or where the ships are sailing.

Last week on the Dawn you didn't get on the ship, in the dining room or buffet with out using the sanitizers.

Could it be they know “hand sanitizers” are 99.99% INEFFECTICE against a virus. Not going to open an old can of bugs. The whole subject has been beaten to death here. Anyone who wants info can spend five minutes on the web to get the truth as to preventing infection from a virus.
