DOUGLASH Posted September 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2004 Anyone have any tips for things to do in Isla de margarita? Like hiking , wildlife, snorkeling.
jonikal Posted September 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2004 We made the mistake of opting to go to the beach near the place where the ship docks. It was an unbelievably hot day and the beach smelled very bad. There are a lot of little huts where vendors sell some touristy stuff. The best part was the duty free shop inside the air conditioning right at the dock where we found some great Venezuelan coffee and some Stolly sold in cans! You might want to take one of the tours of the island.
OCruisers Posted September 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2004 We've been to Isla de Margarita three times and took the Coche Island Cruise the past two. (Went back so you know we liked it! :p ) The beach at Coche Island was beautiful and the water was clear and warm. The beach was nicely set up with all kinds of chairs and shade covers (included in the price) -- more than enough for all -- no "chair hogs" there! Also, an open bar (included in tour price) was on the beach. The crew took such good care of us both on the boat and at the beach -- VERY EAGER TO PLEASE -- without overdoing it. Both times were wonderful! Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)
DOUGLASH Posted September 23, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted September 23, 2004 Was the Coche Island Cruise booked through the cruise ship or an independent contractor?
OCruisers Posted September 23, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2004 We booked it through the cruise ship ... 5 Hours.
rjscott Posted September 27, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2004 Is Coche Beach a snorkeling beach, or just for sunning and swimming? Thx, Becki
OCruisers Posted September 27, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2004 Becki .... It's a beach-beach and not a place to snorkel. Still amazes me that there was this HUGE (very long and wide) stretch of gently sloping beach with warm calm water with almost nothing there. Almost eerie in some ways ... sure it won't stay that way very long.... Hope this helps .... Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)

Tarheelbelle Posted September 27, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2004 We were there on Princess last November. We took a nature cruise to a lagoon with lots of jungle atmosphere and nice views. After the cruise the toor went to a garden with tropical plants and birds. Then we went to the pearl center to shop briefly. It was a decent trip for those not looking for beaches. Guest tealady Posted October 1, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 1, 2004 Went on a jeep tour on our Princess cruise a couple of years ago. It was a very fun trip with a stop at the beach. This was through the ship. I would do this one again.
