The two cruise lines offer very different experiences. Celebrity offers a large ship with a variety of restaurants, entertainment, and is powered by vast engines. Star Clippers offers a small ship powered by the wind (and some diesels when there is no wind). They have only one restaurant and the passengers are pretty much on their own when it comes to entertainment. There is no casino, climbing wall, etc. Of Star Clipper's 3 ships, only the Royal Clipper has an excercise room and spa. Celebrity has many hundreds (couple of thousand on some ships?) of people on board. Star Clippers has two ships with a max of 180 passengers and one ship with a max of 227. Of course, you do get to know people rather well on Star Clippers. You can talk to the captain most any time and who will be glad to sit you at his table. You also get to know all the officers and many of the crew. Star Clippers offers a very personal experience that you will never forget. Which would I pick? Star Clippers anytime to any destination.

We are taking the Star Flyer from Athens Greece to Goa India on Oct7th. Have yet to find anyone else going or who has done it before. We are going to be in Europe for a few weeks ahead of boarding but only after we get our tickets. Tried to set the clock but no luck.

I agree with the previous poster. We sailed on the Royal Clipper in March. It was our sixth cruise but our first "Clipper" cruise. The experience is totally unlike anything you'll find on a big ship. We had around 172 passengers on board and you end meeting most of them over the course of the week. You won't be spoon fed entertainment like on the big ships, but you'll find that the ship itself and your fellow passengers are what make the cruise special.

I have sailed the Flyer in Thailand and The Royal Clipper in the Med out of Cannes...both wonderful. I am now booked for the Clipper out of St. Maarten on dec 5. Having sailed all the big lines I find his company a true departure from what has become a very homogenized industry. The food is good, but not 5 star. The salt air seems to make everything taste better, and I have complaints. The crew is extremely friendly and the overall experience is like being on a private sailing yacht. Windstar might seem a little more upscale, but then the sails are computerized...Clipper is the real thing.

I'll take a small ship anyday...the lack of crowds and lines far out weighs the lact of casinos, show lounges etc.
