La Choza ??

Chellie from Eagle Ray Divers recommended La Choza for dinner (authentic Mexican food). Has anyone been there and what was your experience with the food? How close to the pier is it? We will be spending the day with Eagle Ray Divers on it's three reef snorkel tour and then ending the afternoon at Nacchi Coccum. We wanted to hit a good place for dinner before we get back on the ship. Does anyone know the dress code there?

Thanks,

Misty

Just ate there last week. It is located in the downtown area on the corner of Rosada Salas St and Avenida 10. Any cab driver will know it well. It is not near the piers unless your boat is docked at the Punta Langosta Pier, then it would be walking distance. It as well as 99% of the eateries in Coz very casual. The best thing they serve is interestingly the dipping sauce for the nauchos you get on the table as you wait for your entree. The yellow colored sauce is to die for.

Enjoy

We ate there three times our last trip .... the soups are wonderful! The sauces are great ... had a fish dish that was very good .... prices are reasonable .... we spent a bit over $20 for lunch for 2 (incl. beer) for dinner we spent around $35 (incl. Margaritas) .....

We never miss hitting LaChoza at least once when we go to Cozumel. It is among our favorites.

Keep in mind, much of the Mexican food you get in Cozumel is not like the Tex-Mex food that is served mostly in the states. The Mexican food served in Cozumel is mostly that of the Yucatan region so it is quite different than what you may expect. That doesn't mean you can't find tacos, taquitos, burritos, fajitas, etc.

La Choza specializes in the food of the Yucatan and, if I'm not mistaken, much of it has its roots in Mayan dishes. It is delicious and quite a treat.

ENJOY!!!
