It looks like the information on the website is at least two years old, so I would question its accruracy. When we were at Cayo L. three weeks ago, I didn't see any private boats coming froma Samana with passengers. Even if you mangaged to hire someone in town to take you their, I would be leery about them returning to pick me up, or how safe their boat was.

 

My recomendation is to pay the $33 that the ship charges, and that way you are guaranteed to get their. But.... everyone has their opinions, so, do what you feel good about.
