Good shore excursions on the Eastern Mediterranean in April?

Recommended Posts

Hey! Thanks for taking a look at this. Anyway, From April 26th-May 3rd, 2008, my family will be on Splendour of the Seas which will be cruising the eastern Mediterranean for a 7 Night Greek Isle and Dalmation Coast cruise. We have a party of 6, first time to Europe for all of us, but 5th cruise for most of us. (Ages: 16, 20, 22, 42, 42, 64.) However, we have no idea which excursions we should do for our ports of call, and we have to choose from 56 options.

Here's the Ports of Call we're stopping at

Departing from: Venice, Italy

1. (Sunday) Dubrovnik, Croatia

2. (Tuesday) Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

3. (Wednesday) Santorini, Greece

4. (Thursday) Corfu, Greece

All members of our party are in good condition, physically fit, mostly healthy. Shockingly, the 64 year old has more energy and is healthier than the rest of us. We're up to anything really. We just want to know which excursions are more interesting than the rest and worth the money they cost. So anyone who's been to any of these places, or done excursions that the ship has offered for these places have anything they'd like to comment on? Both the good and bad will be extremely helpful!

By the way, we'd love to do a swimming excursion at least once during the trip (hot springs in Greece) but we're worried about the average temperatures in Europe during April. We've done Caribbean Cruises during Spring Break so we've gotten used to 80s-90s. Is it true that Italy and Greece don't get higher than mid-70s in April? Any advice on aything is helpful! Thanks. See some of you on the trip!

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

You will find all the information you seek on the DESTINATIONS Board. After you check it out please sign up for your sailing on the ROLL CALL for your ship.

The CC ROLL CALL boards for Europe have almost more information than you can process and will make your cruise far more enjoyable.

You will not be able to swim in Dubrovnik unless you travel to a resort area. These areas are really not too far from the port but Dubrovnik is charming and you will want to go to the Old Town.

Santorini has beaches and once again you will have to find transportation to the beaches once you ascend the mountain.

I have not been to Corfu so I cannot help you there.

There is just too much to see in Kusadasi to go swimming.

Unless you plan on travel to Europe often I recommend you pass on the swimming and take in the sights. You can always dip into one of the pools onboard when you return from your touring.

The weather will be like middle America. You may experience mild days in the 70's to high 80's. You might have a little rain. No forecast this far out is worth much. The warmer weather will be in Greece and Turkey.

Enjoy your cruise and join the ROLL CALL.
