Acapulco short time in port

On our upcoming cruise this summer the ship will be docked in Acapulco from 6:30am and have to be back onboard by 1pm

What are some good options for a short stay at this port that can be done in 2 hours. We don't plan on being up at 5am to be off the ship by 6:30am

Places and businesses in Acapulco are typically quiet until about 10 a.m. You can visit Ft. San Diego, which is located directly across the street from where the cruise ships berth and there is a special pedestrian bridge from the 2nd or 3rd floor of the terminal building right to the front area of the Fort. An hour's time might be good for the visit.

A couple of hundred feet at the most from the Fort is an interesting museum displaying masks from the region. The state of Guerrero (in which Acapulco sits) has the richest tradition on Mexico of people using masks for ceremonial occassions. A half-hour might be all you'd need for this visit, unless you wanted to really study things.

The city's 'malecon' is a 15-minute walk from the terminal building and you could walk along the waterfront where the chartered fishing boats are tied-up. Across the street from the Malecon is the historic city-center and you could sit at one of the sidewalk restaurants/cafe's and watch the city pass you by. Children will be going and coming to/from school (they study on a 'shift' system), people doing shopping or visting the bank, others worshipping at the city's Roman Catholic Cathedral, etc.

These things will easily occupy 2-3 hours of time.

I have hundreds of photos of Acapulco uploaded to online albums and if this is your first visit to the city you might find that they will help orient you - before you get there. Click on the album link located in my signature line below.
