I just got off the phone with RCCL and the person I spoke with said that she nor any of her co-workers had heard of/about this.

Live from the Vision.... just a quick note about smoking.

As of this week you can no longer smoke in the schooner bar. the only places indoors to smoke are the Viking Crown lounge (where the cigar smoking is) and the Casino (except for the 2 designated non smoking nights- formal nights).

 

Having a good time but it's frigging cold!

 

I just wish they would ban smoking everywhere on the ship.

Over the last couple of years, we have found that

 

policy reads: one shall be non-smoking.

in practice: one allows smoking.

 

We were on the Sovereign in December, and the only spots where smoking was allowed indoors was up in the Viking Crown for cigars (and they needed some filtration machines up there, badly), and in one small section of the casino.

 

Functionally, the two areas were severely gaseous, and everybody was complaining.

 

Remember that the function of making more areas non-smoking is to crowd all the smokers into the small remaining area, where it intensifies the effect.

 

I'm a smoker, DH is not.

 

On the recent Galaxy cruise we went on, the casino was made entirely non-smoking for one night. It did have a very nice non-smoking slot machine section (that actually worked), and some non-smoking tables.

 

Neither of us patronized the casino on the non-smoking night, and made sure to tell the pit bosses why we did not come in that evening. Just for the record... it was empty when we peeked in to check.

 

A little more tolerance on both sides would be nice.

We spoke to a manager at the crown and anchor party and he said that since they banned smoking in the cabins, it brought more smoking into the public areas which caused more complaints.

The week before we sailed he said there were 100 complaints about the schooner bar, hence the change.

 

We were disappointed as the active policy was different than what is stated on the website, but he said that would be changing very soon.

As a smoker, I think RCI better take a hard look at what effect all these smoking bans may do to their bottom line. The banning of smoking in bars will definetly hurt their revenue in these areas, specifically the Schooner bars on ships. It's my opinion that smokers are heavier drinkers than those that don't smoke. JMHO.

RE smoke:What I find interesting is that 30 years ago in CA it was around us everywhere and it was just the way it was........but as venues became more and more smoke free......now we non-smokers can pick up the smell

"miles" away.........I am surprised now how many European countries are making the no smoking move in their bars, Italy of all places....

 

I do feel for the smokers, but the smoke really does bug me.

I tend to agree, we just had our lowest bar bill on a cruise ever.

In the US, only 20.8% of the adult population smokes. So unless the makeup of this board differs greatly from the population in general, it's easy to conclude the board is mostly non-smokers.

 

So...if the population of a cruise ship resembles the population in general then RCI is simply adjusting their rules to favor the majority. ;) :)
