What is an open air safari bus?

Several islands offer tours by open air safari buses. They sound hot, and sound like a good way for a redhead such as Joe to get a sunburn; but we don't really know what they are. Can someone describe them? Maybe they're covered but with no windows, which might be OK.

When we have been on them in the past they are usually pickup trucks with benches in them for seating. Some of them have a canvas cover that provides limited shade but they are mostly in the sun so if you are sun sensative be sure to use a lot of sunblock.
