rubinstein2r Posted March 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2008 We will be in Alexandria in June on Azamara Quest. We want to make the MOST of our 11 hours in a place we've wanted to travel all our lives. What are the BEST things to see (not necessarily the most popular)? Does any one have experience with non-cruise tour companies? Is this a place we should go with the cruise-line tours? --Myra and Leo in AZ
eh2zed Posted March 6, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2008 Its a 3 hour drive to Cairo from Alexandria. If you have never been to the Pyramids its well worth the effort. The Sphinx is on the same property and you could go to the Museum of Antiquity in Cairo. These would be the main attractions for me. As for private operators we did this but you need to have some sense of adventure. We saw more for less money in a small group setting and were well pleased. However, a private tour is not for everyone. We used Memphis Tours and were very satisfied but we did insist on leaving Cairo earlier than the guide normally did in order to have a good buffer getting back to the ship well before All Aboard.
