flashdog_1 Posted March 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2008 I know you can probably expect sand fleas (no see ums) but how is the mosquito situation in Bermuda? Is it like in the Caribbean witht the trade winds that you are not bothered by them? or should I come prepared with spray? Thanks
terri1020 Posted March 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2008 I don't have an answer for you but we are also going to Bermuda (in June) and I'm anxious to read the replies, so I'm subscribing to this thread. Thanks for asking this question!

Salt air hair Posted March 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2008 I've been to many of the beaches on Bermuda at various times of the sailing season and have yet to see a sandflea or bit by a "nosee'um". Enjoy the beaches, they are among the most beautiful...
iheartbda Posted March 9, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2008 Just another checking in to say on numerous trips have never had any encounters with either sand fleas or mosquitoes.:)
flashdog_1 Posted March 9, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted March 9, 2008 That is certainly good news! Now if someone who lives in Bermuda wants to tell us how they control mosquitos, I'm all ears.
bdaguy Posted March 9, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 9, 2008 We don't have sand fleas. We do have mosquitoes but they aren't a problem. We don't have much in the way of naturally occuring habitat for mosquitoes to breed in. Also we have mosquito cops that check the island for man-made habitat like tires, disused water trofts, buckets - basically anything that can hold rainwater. Repeat offenders can end up with a pretty hefty fine or sometimes may be shot at sunset.
brzymom Posted March 10, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 10, 2008 oh bdaguy--someone may actually believe you!! no sand fleas or no see 'ums, and believe the tradewinds keep the mosquitos down. I could be wrong. I will check on bdaguy's details on the 'skeeter police!! been to many places in the US and Caribbean and none compare to the beautiful beaches of Bermuda--bar none, the best I have ever enjoyed!! don't worry about bug spray, but be sure you have your sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, aloe, camera & film or memory card--you could go broke getting these in Bermuda!! Love hearing about this, wish the authorities would get as tough here, as West Nile has been steadily increasing locally.
