Smoking Policy on Carnival

I think we are back to the fact that if there was an area of balconies that were stipulated as smoking, the smokers could smoke freely without worrying about bothering anyone, and the non smokers would have nothing to complain about.

Seems like a logical answer.

I'd go for that. The problem is.....I like the aft balconies. Some like forward. Others like midships.

I am more worried about my 2 yr old son smelling the smoke then myself. And I am so mad that they allow smoking on the ship. Being from NY, the thought never even crossed my mind that they allow this on the ship. I am so upset. We shall see what happens. I hope no one around us smokes. I can't believe that many people still smoke.

Things have really improved and there are designated areas for smokers-which you can easily avoid. There is no smoking in the dining areas at all, and usually there is one bar area that is for smokers, the rest is non smokers. Outdoor bars are usually divided in half with smoking and non smoking areas. Outdoors on the decks-at least on the Triumph- the port side is non-smoking. There were not any signs, but it is written on the back of the Capers. I suggest carrying one with you and nicely pointing it to anyone who is smoking on the wrong side. Most people are just not aware.

Being from New York? Do you never walk down a New York City sidewalk, especially in front of a bar? Do you ever look down at the sidewalks? there is smoke everywhere, not to mention cigarette butts all over the sidewalks. Let's not even get into cigarette butts that are still lit that my poor little dog once stepped on and screamed bloody murder!

And if you pay a premium price for a balcony room and then can't use the balcony that would be a bust.

And I paid for my balcony, too. It wasn't free! I should be able to use it as I like. Which means having the occasional cigarette, as it is still allowed.

Come on guys and gals, if you're going to let cigar or cigarette smoke RUIN your cruise vacation, you're nuts.

Let's get real here!

What if it rains? Will you explode?

It's not that bad. How many threads do you see started after a cruise that say how bad it was because of all the smoke?

Actually I only go into NYC to see my son's agent and I never have come across any of this. I guess it depends where in NYC you go.

She lives in NY, as do i, and is worried bout smoke? Has anyone seen the polution in the city ?

What about the vinyl laminates and w/c on the walls... some of those emit toxic vapors.. watch the documentary Blue Vinyl

The stain resistant carpet has carcinogens... also

Unless the ship is a Greenguard, Leeds Certified construction.. there could be toxins everywhere... just google it..

I see nothing wrong with smoking on the balcony (as I have done). Just don't throw the butt overboard. Same as smoking on the streets, find an ashtray.

Yes, agreed! The wind will blow it right onto the deck below you, or the one below it! That would really suck!

I agree. That is awful to just throw it on the ground or overboard. And that is fine to smoke on the balcony, just not near me:D ;)

Dont be sorry.. its a discussion.. :o

Its completely legitimate. I boohoo'd it until i had to learn about it for work.

I dont state it to rule out 2nd hand smoke, i am not a denier of the effects.. all i am saying is its in everything we utilize.. you would be amazed what can give off toxins.. its scary

:)

I agree you should be able to use your balcony. As a previous poster stated the cruise line should book one side of the ship smoking and the other non smoking and eliminate the problem. But if on average 20% are smokers that would be difficult.

Yes there are alot of pollutants in our air space that are out of our control.

And it is very scary......but as a individual smoking is something I can control. Totally different comparison IMO.........

Our daughter has severe asthma and I would say 15 years ago we instituted a no smoking policy in our home. We had several friends and relatives that smoked at the time and they all respected our wishes and went outside to smoke when they came to our home. Now today only one of those smokers continues to smoke. Unfortunately 3 died of COPD complications.

It's amazing to me what you can find out... do you realize that most of the whiners about there cruise or life in general - like the woman from NY - are non-smokers? Why do you think casino's allow smoking - hell encourage it? People who don't smoke come in and play penny machines/have $20 to play and stop/whine there are not $1 blackjack tables/etc. A smoker comes with $1000 and stays to play and Gamble.

I am astounded at how someone can say that the smell from perfume or the toxins that are emitted from everywhere - do you think that hot dog you get off the street doesn't emit vapors when the top is taken off - are not as bad or not the same as 2nd hand smoke. The population has been brain-washed and it actually helps major corporations that people are so worried about one problem that they ignore the fact that emissions from MANY sources cause major health problems. Yes I did say the smoke is a problem... but just one among many and not the worst by any stretch.

Just today I read a story about how in China the Olympics are bringing contestants in very late because the air is so BAD that it can harm them. Now that's something to be worried about.

I think it's kind of funny that smokers in the work place have been relegated to the status of low-life druggies... or at least it looks that way as they are only allowed to smoke off in the distance, away from doorways... usually huddling behind a piller like a homeless person would to keep the cold off them... :D

You are right on.. you made my point better than i did. .A nonsmoker can get away from 2nd hand smoke but they can not get away from everything else...

Did you hear about bottled water! OMG whats next!

Reminds me of my brother....always giving me crap about smoking.

He lives in OC, CA. I drove from Sacramento to his house. When I got to the top of the hill....right before you go into the LA area....I almost stopped the car and turned around.

Thick, brown, nasty looking stuff hanging over the area. I couldn't believe it....never saw anything like it before!

I told him I don't want to hear anymore about my cigarette smoke.

Then may I ask this question? If the world is sooo bad and full of toxins (as you say) then why in the world would someone want to voluntarily suck more of it into their lungs?

And btw your analogy of non smokers gambling made me laugh out loud.

Because it is so far from the truth it is funny......or all my friends are just in the minority lol!

LA smog is so bad that it can actually hide a mountain from your view that is only 100 yards away.

Kids in LA don't sleep outside in the summer for fear of waking up with acid-doo on their bags...
