Dominican Republic Beach Breaks

I just got back from Norwegian Cruise and was in port at Samana (March 2008). This area is on the north east coast. There is nothing to due at this port only one place to shop. Not well developed at all. We took the tour to Grand Paradise Resort offered through Norwegian. It was 45 minute drive from Samana. The beanch at the resort was about a 1/4 mile long with very little wave action (good for small childern) and sandy bottom. It did have a little seaweed but just move farther down the beach and it is perfect. There was lot of French and Canadians at the resort. The hotel staff was friendly but spoke only spanish. The price was only $79 per person and included all you can eat and drink. There were no drunk people at the resort. They also had wind surfing and acrobics in the water if you wanted to exercise. They also had a childern and adult pool. They had numberous chairs and you could either lay on the grass or on the beach and there were numerous trees. We were there for 5 hours long enough to get sunburn and have several cocktails. Great value for your money.
