lysolqn Posted March 18, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Sure hope this thread takes off! Haven't seen many posts re CC members' experiences on FOS. We'll be on later this year and I'm looking forward to learning as much about the ship as I can until then. Feedback from past pax is incredibly valuable, so if you're out there, please... nycgirl128 Posted March 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2008 I'm going on Freedom in a little over 2 weeks and can hardly wait. Although I'm swamped at work, I can hardly concentrate and get anything done because I'm so excited. Anyone just off Freedom with any experience carrying off their own luggage? If so, is there a limit to how many bags you can carry off or any size restrictions?
hmsdos Posted March 18, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2008 I'm going on Freedom in a little over 2 weeks and can hardly wait. Although I'm swamped at work, I can hardly concentrate and get anything done because I'm so excited. Anyone just off Freedom with any experience carrying off their own luggage? If so, is there a limit to how many bags you can carry off or any size restrictions? Good Morning… we just got off Sunday :D we did the express departure…. We each had one suitcase and I had a purse plus a small bag…. There were people in line with huge suitcases with medium then small attached…. So didn’t seem to be any “rule” other than you absolutely have to be able to handle any/all of your own luggage! And there are ramps plus some distance to walk…. So be prepared to take care of yourself… no porters or gentlemen… unless you bring your own;) Wish we could get back on the ship.... enjoy... Don't miss the First show and the last show in the Theater... also the Ice Show.... all are great, but these three are "don't miss!"

nycgirl128 Posted March 18, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks hmsdos. One more quick question...what time were you escorted off of the ship?
Rare BillOh Posted March 18, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2008 I will add that it pays to book ahead. I made my reservation in July of 06 , and the same D1 is now $500 per person more than it was then. Heading into the final countdown after 500 day wait. fllchick Posted March 18, 2008 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2008 I will add that it pays to book ahead. I made my reservation in July of 06 , and the same D1 is now $500 per person more than it was then. Heading into the final countdown after 500 day wait. I agree...definitely book ahead! We booked 12/07 for FOS 11/2/08. We're in an E1 balcony, and I just checked the website today, and there isn't a single balcony available! And the comparable oceanview is $300 more than what we paid! garrahyd Posted March 18, 2008 #11 Share Posted March 18, 2008 We are heading out in 33 days! Prices have skyrocketed! My Mom is going two weeks later. She just booked a couple of weeks ago and got a D2 cabin for less than I paid for an Oceanview 3rd floor last August! Go figure! I was disappointed to find that our cruise leaves at 6pm and doesn't arrive into San Juan till 5pm. My first thought...why bother making this stop for 6 hours! But...I am looking forward to our trip. Hoping we can still get on by about 11 - 11:30. We are after all paying for the ship that day since it is considered our first day!:D
FanofFlorida Posted March 18, 2008 #12 Share Posted March 18, 2008 I am also VERY excited about my upcoming cruise on FOS :D What I would like to know: We are in 1590 port side/ deck 10. Will we have noise from the pool deck? Do you see plenty of waiters in the solarium? (And does the 15% automatic tip cover their service as well as the bartenders?) What is the food like at the Cafe Promenade? Where do they shoot formal portraits? Is there really a midnight, poolside buffet? What night of the cruise? I am sure I will come up with more, but I am just happy someone started this thread.
tyme2travel Posted March 18, 2008 #13 Share Posted March 18, 2008 We sailed the 3/2 Western itinerary and enjoyed every minute of it. We were onboard by noon and eating lunch. Staterooms for all three couples in our party were ready by 1 pm with excursion tickets, compass, etc. Met our attendant roughly 5 pm ish, at which point I sent out items for pressing. We had early seating on Deck 5, Galileo Dining and had a table just for the six of us. Food was fine, I am not one to nitpick it. Stateroom storage was adequate. I did bring an over the door shoe organizer with pockets and it helped greatly with makeup, sunscreen, etc. Also brought a popup clothes hamper which helped with dirty laundry. Plenty of hangars and space for all our clothes. Our suitcases fit under the bed just fine and were out of the way. My husband enjoyed the flow rider and rock climbing wall the first sea day and had little to no waiting for each. He won $500 at bingo early that week as well. The ice show was good as was a Temptations Revue group one night. The requisite towel animals appeared daily as well. We did excursions at three of the four ports as well. If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to answer as best I can..
hmsdos Posted March 18, 2008 #14 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks hmsdos. One more quick question...what time were you escorted off of the ship? Started clearing us off the ship (with the seapass card) at 6:15... we were out of the building in less than 10 minutes....
acc82 Posted March 18, 2008 #15 Share Posted March 18, 2008 I am also VERY excited about my upcoming cruise on FOS :D What I would like to know: We are in 1590 port side/ deck 10. Will we have noise from the pool deck? Sorry about this one, I don't know, I stayed in balcony on deck 8. Do you see plenty of waiters in the solarium? (And does the 15% automatic tip cover their service as well as the bartenders?) yes, i never went to the main deck - there are too many people there and i get claustrophobic sometimes. plus, it's a little gross to see the diapered kids in the pool with the spray :-) i got plenty of drinks and i had to shoo them sometimes and the tip is included in the bill What is the food like at the Cafe Promenade? pizza, sandwhiches, coffee, cakes, brownies, cookies, - general snack food. the pizza rocks. Where do they shoot formal portraits? see my attachment Is there really a midnight, poolside buffet? What night of the cruise? yes, there is a formal midnight buffet on one of the formal nights with the "pretty" food that you take pictures of first. Then there is a poolside one with barbeque and dancing by the pool. It's fun, but it's always hard for me to stay up for it. i can't remember which night. I am sure I will come up with more, but I am just happy someone started this thread. Okay, I know that I sailed 2 years ago, But, I sailed the INAGURAL season on Freedom :-) Only the 3rd cruise on her. :-) I'll try to answer some. I have some pictures too. i've attached my formal portrait from freedom to give you a taste. This one is from the backdrop in front of the dining room. but, they also take them infront of the promenade. i've also attached my promenade pic from formal night on the mariner here. ChristieNJ Posted March 18, 2008 #16 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Okay... just to add some "flavor", color.... here are three pictures... one of the ship, one of the Promenade and one of the dining rooms. Great pics! I miss Freedom! She was the first Freedom class I sailed on, and I remember being in such awe over the H20 Zone and the FlowRider! Ahhh...the good ole days! :D Here's some more pics: The H20 Zone (they should make a place like this just for adults! MickeyB426 Posted March 18, 2008 #17 Share Posted March 18, 2008 We are in 1590 port side/ deck 10. Will we have noise from the pool deck? Having been in 1560 and 1564 (and will be in the same rooms four weeks from now, which are directly underneath the overhanging hot tubs...I can definitely tell you no! I, too, worried about upper-level noise due to the pool and hot tubs. I never noticed it and it became a non-issue as soon as I arrived in the room. What is the food like at the Cafe Promenade? Since the Windjammer is standard cafeteria, buffet faire (on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 7), what I end up doing is alternating between the Windjammer and Cafe Promenade. Between the pizza and mini-sandwiches at Sorrento's, the pastrie and coffee at Seattle's Best Coffee Shop, and Ben and Jerry's (not to mention Johnny Rocket's), we had no problem with lunchtime. Or dinner. Or breakfast. Or snacking. ;)

crusinmama06 Posted March 18, 2008 #22 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Where do they shoot formal portraits? EVERYWHERE! :D I am not kidding. They have formal portraits set up all over the ship. They have them in the Promenade. Outside the dining room. On the stairs next to the glass elevators. On the light up bridge. We went to as many settings as we could and I know we hit at least 10 different ones.
