Cell phone service on the Gem

We are new to NCL and to the Gem.

Does anyone have any info about the availability of cell service on the Gem. I have Verizon and have been able to text and call home from other ships while cruising up and down the Atlantic coast enroute to the Caribbean. Texting has actually been a very reasonable way to keep in touch with home.

Verizon says there is no service in the Bahamas, but I was wondering if the ship provides any service, like so many ships now do.

While at sea - you use the CELLULAR AT SEA towers and pay $2.49 which will show up on your Verizon bill. If you are within range and happen to pick up a shore based tower, then great.

The ships cell tower is on anytime the ship is moving. Since its the closest it will be picked up by your cell phone and charged unless you have a trac phone....
