Day in Vancouver questions

Recommended Posts

We (4 adults) have reservations at the Times Square Suites at the end of our cruise.

Our plan is to pick up our rental car and check in, leaving the car there.

We will then walk over to Stanley Park and use the free shuttle bus in the park to go thru the park, stopping somewhere for lunch. Is there anyplace nice in the park to eat? Or sould we plan on eating elsewhere?

Then we would walk back to the hotel, get the car and drive to Capilano Bridge and Grouse Mountain, returning to town that evening.

Does this sound do-able in one day? I know they may be other things to see and places to go, but we only have one day and want to enjoy it.

We were in Vancouver last year for 1 full day (2 nts). We took public transportation (seabus) and spent the morning at Capilano bridge (not Grouse Mtn). We had lunch at the Lonsdale Quay Public Market (a large selection of places to eat.) Then back on the sea bus to spend the afternoon at Stanley Park. It was a very enjoyable day, never felt rushed, and all the transportation only cost $8 each.

Hope this helps--Have a great time! Vancouver is a beautiful city.

That is totally doable!

There are many places to eat in Stanley Park, but be prepared to pay a little bit for it primarily because of where you are. If you want more down-to-earth neighborhood type restaurants, there are many along Denman and also along Robson (I think the Times Square suites are on Denman and Robson?).

If you are able, you can also rent a bike and bike the Stanley Park Seawall. Otherwise, taking the shuttle is totally fine too. You might also want to try the horse-drawn tour for $27.

Here's more info on dining in the park: http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/parks/parks/stanley/dining.htm

There are also concession stands all around the park.

If you still have time after doing Capilano Brridge and Grouse, you may also want to check out Granville Island. You can drive there or take the Aquabus.

Yes your plan is doable and yes there are concession stands if what you want is a hot dog or hamburger but t here are also 2 lovely restaurants in Stanley Park overlooks English Bay and the other is right by the Lawn Bowling greens. Have eaten at both many times and always had wonderful lunches.

We stayed at the Times Square Suites at the end of our cruise last year and loved the place. We were so looking forward to walking around the area and doing the park but we had a monsoon that day, unbelievable rain.

Enjoy.

Yes your itinerary is quite doable depending upon when you check in to your hotel. Stanley Park is over 1000 acres so you are only going to see the highlights in a morning. You will need about 1/2 to get to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and who will want to spend a min of 1 1/2 hrs there and then you are only a short 10 minutes to the Grouse Mountain Sky Ride which and you will likely want to devote at least 2 hours to that. Between the suspension bridge and the sky ride you may care to stop and see the fish hatchery http://www-heb.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/facilities/capilano/capilano_e.htm

and the Cleveland Dam http://www.seethenorthshore.com/capilano/capilano.htm

both of these are free attractions. Your day will be full!
