ab0si Posted March 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2008 Several firms offer a free pick-up service. I know some of the Budget franchises do, for example. Paul

Ine Posted March 29, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2008 Maybe this link will help you with finding a car. http://www.channels.nl/amsterdam/all_autoverhuur.html Bu using google earth, you will find their locations. I am not so sure about a shuttle service to/from the agency, so better check this before making reservations. Remember driving a car in Amsterdam is not that easy, city center has many traffic problems, hardly any parking (and if any very expensive). Besides gas in NL is also very expensive. Outside the city traffis might give some problems too, roads can be very crowded, lanes are smaller then in the USA. (and dutch drivers sometimes drive rather agressive.) Indeed public transport can be a good option, depending what you want to see and do.

Can you please tell me if it is feasible to rent a car from Amsterdam Airport to travel to Haarlem and various cities. We do not plan on driving in Amsterdam just the outer cities of Amsterdam. Is there any place to find good maps of the surrounding cities?

Is there any place to find good maps of the surrounding cities? Yes it is, but again traffic in The Netherlands, specialy in the western part is very busy. There is an excellent connection by bus from Schiphol to Haarlem. Be aware public transport - trains, buses etc., is frequent almost everywhere. There is a site for all transportation: https://9292.nl/en Simply put in start and end and you see many possibilities. You can also use google maps to check where you want to go, print maps of cities etc. Or go to e.g. your local AAA office. Again parking is rather expensive. Ine Posted August 3, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 3, 2017 Can you please tell me if you can buy a train pass for 2-3 days to use in Amsterdam and the surrounding cities or is the Amsterdam travel ticket only for Amsterdam? There is a pass that covers only Amsterdam but another one also covers some areas outside of Amsterdam. Places like Zaanse Schans is covered for travel by bus not train. So check the details of this pass: https://en.gvb.nl/amsterdam-region-travel-ticket
