travelers checks or cash

We are on the Tahitian Princess on 10-14. We cannot wait! Making all the final arragements, and I was wondering do you get better conversion rate with cash or travelers check, and is it best to exchange on the ship? Thanks for any info.

I just read somewhere that travellers checks had a better exchange rate.

As for exchanging you can cash the TC's onboard and exchange there or in one of the ports. I hear that lately the rate is better onboard the ship.

On August 20, the exchange rate at the bank we used at the Papeete Airport was about 1% better for American Express traveler's checks than for US currency. And the rate was better in Papeete than if we had used the currency exchange in LAX even taking into consideration that there is a one time transaction fee of $4 plus change at the PPT bank. (I exchanged $200 which was more than was needed for our 19 days in FP.) Remember to keep some CPF for your final day if you want to ride "Le Truck" and 100 CPF coin for luggage cart at Papeete airport.
