What is with all the peel off ticket selling.

I've been on Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Holland America, and I've never seen those peel off (or whatever you call them) tickets being sold in the theater before each and every show...

 

What is the deal with this? This seems kind of tacky. It was every single night from at least 15 minutes before the show started, probably longer.

 

I really didn't like that, is this common on all NCL cruise ships?

It was on our Star cruise and we bought ....but never won.;)

I guess its kinda like the lotto:eek: however we keep buying...just not winning....

I found aussie CD Simon and same "strips" on the Star in Alaska in '06.

 

I dunno about now, but sound same as what they sold as "Krackits"

 

He was obviously a nice guy, since he was Aussie.:)

 

But, yep, we won, (sadly not 2 grand cash), but a Caribbean Cruise for two.

 

Cant complain about the "win" , but was ultimately disappointed to hear from head office when booking, that we had to pay not only port taxes/fees, but also an extra $280 as "guest fares"

 

Never had any answers to questions why that was not disclosed at the time, but had a great Caribbean cruise anyway.

 

Its all gambling, and not luck.. If ya never have a go, ya neva neva know.

 

(And ya neva neva know what extras costs you win):eek:

We totally agree with you and discussed it several times during our recent cruise on the Pearl. If NCL wants to raise its image this is one thing that can go.

yep those are Krackits. another method of "earning" money. i don't have a problem with them, but i do have a problem in the manner they sell them. my last few NCL cruises "appeared" to be a little bit more than aggressive.

 

(now don't get me wrong...i have sold my share of raffle tickets for my church and other organizations of which i am a part.)

 

but seems like before almost every program, there was a "reminder" or an actual sale of those Krackits...as well as the overly priced bingo cards (now with electronic devices).

 

i wouldn't mind if they had a table set up peddling the Krackits. just not before events. it just looks like NCL is "desperate" to generate revenue. but there will be a time (just like when cereal prices went through the roof) when NCL will see low sales on this...they may adjust prices elsewhere.

 

...just the nature of the beast. oh and i think my DH and i won $50 on those Krackits tickets.

yeah exactly. i'll buy'em if i want'em. simple as that. eventually enough pax will do that (over a long enough period of time)...and eventually the program/strategy will change...or eventually die.

Not at all...I just wanted to know if this was always the case on NCL, and someone else said it is common on Carnival.

 

I just think it is a bit tacky. I won't go so far to say I was offended, just annoyed.

I, for one, don't see it as tacky. Can it be a little annoying? Sure. But tacky? It's not as if you're sitting in church or attending the opera or ballet. It's a showroom on a mainstream cruise ship. What's the big deal, especially since it's so easily ignored and only lasts for a few minutes?

Glad you won something, even if it cost you!! You're the first I heard of that won anything. Honestly though, I didn't really pay that much attention since we weren't buying. I just thought it was funny that he kept saying doesn't matter what you spend since you will win.

 

And I'm not knocking the Aussie CD- if I have to listen to announcements, may as well be in that lovely accent!!:)

When I was on the Gem, we were at Bingo on the first day, I believe, and a woman won $2000. Later in the week, I asked in the casino if anybody else won, she said 2 people won $2000 so far on the cruise from those things.

I understand where you're coming from. BTW-I've never bought one of them but the idea that they sell them doesn't bother me one way or the other.

DH and I always laugh at the people who buy the things. On our last cruise, I said "what the heck!" So we joined those people we used to laugh at. No, we didn't win much -- maybe a dollar or so. We had to go to the Casino to "redeem" our winnings, which must be NCL's intention in the first place, and I won $125 on a slot machine before we could get out of the place. :D
