We are going on this cruise in summer. I have been to Toulon before and took an excursion to St Tropez- was a short coach trip but with a bit traffic as you enter St Tropez- they only got a one carriage road in. St tropez was lovely- the marina an eye opener but drinks were expensive there! Nice drive in though, I think the excursion was about £30 but that was a couple of years ago- Enjoy!

We've done the two cruises you are going on with Thomson - but didn't do either Olbia or Trapani. In Sardinia we went to Alghero and in Sicily our stop was in Palermo so it looks as though Thomson may have changed these itineraries. If that's the case, you might not find fellow board members have experience of these places. Perhaps if you post or look on the general Med message boards, you will find some info. Good luck!

We went on a Thomson 2 week Med cruise in 2006. First cruise and totally hooked. Most ports we just walked off the ship and made our own way round the area, making we sure we had a local lunch and local bottle of vino on the way. We took a coach into Rome and then used a tourist bus to whizz round the city, getting off at the Coliseum and walking back to St Peter's to catch the coach back. Much better than a 'forced' walking tour. You get to see lots of little 'nooky' squares and streets. The only trip I'd really recommend is the Sorrento and Pompeii. Go on the one that gets into Sorrento on the train and hope you get Hugo as a guide.

We're doing the Greek Islands and Venice this year on the Emerald. Can't wait. Enjoy your trip!
