Best advice is to (1) join the Roll Call for your sailing and (2) check out the Mediterannean ports of call board. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=7&f=234 Lots of helpful information there. We are a family of four and we found two others through our Roll Call to share private tours. If your Roll Call isn't very active, check out others with the same itinerary but a different date.:)

Check out http://www.benvenutolimos.com - I know they do Rome and I believe also Naples. Not sure about Florence. They are fantastic. I also used http://www.seesorrento.com - they were good but the driver's English wasn't that great so we didn't get as much out of the tour as we could have.

I agree with the other poster - join (or start) the roll call for your departure date and find others to share the cost with you.

Have fun - the Med is amazing!

Be careful that you understand there is a difference between a DRIVER and a TOUR GUIDE. If you hire a driver you need to provide the spots you want to see and he/she is not required to provide narration.

We have used www.seesorrento.com also and he is fantastic!!! AND he is not just a driver.... We also used, both in Naples and Rome www.driverinrome.com and they were both great! NO, they cannot take you into Pompeii or the Vatican, they wait outside for you... but besides those types of venues, they do act as your tour guide and they do a GREAT job!!!

Sallyt,

We have cruised the Med. twice, in 2003 and in 2007. Both times we used Marcello at http://www.seesorrento.com. He is a driver who is extremely passionate about his country. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is great, especially if you want to see the real Italy. You can read all about our adventures as well as see many pictures on our website at http://www.thepreismans.com.
