wynkys Posted April 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2008 Noel & Pat, Thank you very much for your wonderful video and taking the time and trouble to post it. I was very interested in this trip but it wasn't possible as I am sole carer for my mother who has Vascular Dementia. My father and uncle were both US Marines who fought at Guadalcanal and I also called into Rabaul when on HMAS Sydney taking troops to Vietnam in 1967. I look forward to viewing Part 2. Bellair Posted April 5, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted April 5, 2008 Many thanks for your reply Wayne, We had some great services on board the ship as we anchored off Iron Bottom Sound & made our way thru the 'slot' to Rabaul. The next service anchored was at Iwo Jima & you will see that on part2 in a week or two when I post it. Regards Noel

yiddishkopf Posted April 8, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2008 Thank you for posting this very moving video. My late husband's uncle dies at Guadalcanal -- he was a Navy man, all of 22 years old. I never knew him -- I was 8 when WWII ended, but the video brought tears to my eyes knowing how the family was devastated by his untimely death. I look forward to the next installment and am forwarding this to others.
