Seattle Dinner and Dancing 2 night

Has anyone been on a dinner and dancing cruise w/ ncl?

My wife and I are expecting and I wanted to surprise her with a nice weekend get away. NCL is offering a 2 night to nowhere "dinner and dancing" cruise.

My questions are:

Have any of you been on one of these? As the name says, is it more formal with dancing etc, or is it essentially just a cruise to nowhere?

Its on the Pearl. Any feedback about the ship?

I have been on the cruises to nowhere that leave from New York. Everything on the ship is available to you as if it were a regular cruise.

It is not going to be a quite night of dancing, these are party ships, everyone is trying to fit everything into one or two nights. The public areas are quite crowded.

We have done two of these cruises, and had a great time. It is my opinion that you cannot beat the prices and all that it includes.

If you go have a great time.:D

Incidently, the Pearl is a great ship.

They called them dinner and dance but they are really like a large meet and greet and lets drink and party cruise - I did a one day Seattle to Vancouver last fall on the Pearl and it was the most lively cruise that I have been on to date - they are partly designed to introduce people to cruising - get them on a ship to see what life can be like on a cruise ship and partly as a thank you to the citizens of Seattle and Vancouver for there support of cruising during the year.

These types of cruises usually attract a much younger crowd and kids as they are offered on weekends

The Pearl was new last year so it was also a chance to be on a new ship - doing the one day Seattle to Vancouver in Sept again this year but only this time on the Star.

Hope this helps

Cheers

We did the 1 nighter out of LA on the Pearl last year. It was a great way to experience the ship! There were a several large corporate groups having a great time. The Pearl is a fantastic ship!

In fact, I've tried several times to figure out how to do the 2 night Seattle as well!

I promise I'm not trying to highjack your thread, BUT :D

It's called a "cruise to nowhere", so does that mean that the ship stay's at the dock the whole time, or does it leave the dock and go out into the Puget Sound, up in to the Straight of Juan De Fuca, etc?

It must, right? Since they can't have a full bar available while in port.

Any info would be appreciated.

I live near Seattle and this sounds like a great way to introduce my two little ones to cruising.

Thanks and sorry for the semi-highjack!:D

You know I have been on the one nighters and quite frankly I do not think they are any place for kids. I am just giving my opinion, but they are party ships.

Yes, they do leave the port.

I think your cruise on the Wonder will be the PERFECT way to introduce your kids to cruising! There were a few kids on our one nighter and I thought they seemed a little out of place (mine were left at DL with grandparents). I doubt they even opened the kids club for the one nighter - a two nighter is probably a slightly different story. But, if I was closer to Seattle, I would be looking for a baby sitter ;) ... And an assortment of one inch colored dot stickers like all the corporate parties had to identify their open bar tabs!

Looking at the daily from last year's one nighter there was some activities for Kids - mostly pool related - it's show an Aqua kid's club orientation from 2 -4 and then the Aqua kid's club on deck 12 mid from 5 - 10PM.

Hope this helps

These cruise-to-nowhere cruises should be read as gambling cruises in International waters. NCL has tried it out of NY and Boston and call them dinner-and-dance cruises also. I think it has not work out the way they wanted it or else all the other cruises companys would jump right into it.

NCL parent company Star Cruises is a casino company and a master of these cruises. They have casino ships operating overnight cruises out of Hong Kong 24/7 and they are competing with 8 other casino ships at last count.

Clearly these cruises are illegal going by the PVSA but there are so many other illegal cruises going on. First of all for anything like this they have to use US flagged ships which none of the cruise lines have.

The other thing is that it is essentially taking the local Seattle residents out to sea to gamble and the city and state would want a big say on this and what it does to their state gambling law.

Meanwhile enjoy them while you still have them.

They don't call these booze cruises for nothing. Party, party, party. Lots of travel agents and locals looking to get away for the weekend.

When Princess has theirs in September, just about the whole Seattle office piles aboard for the one night trip north to Vancouver, and not a lot of sleeping goes on. Pretty much the same on NCL.

Ok- just moved here (Seattle) from San Fran.

What will the temp be like come may 2 (when the cruise is)

Any chance for pool?

Yeah, I was gonna say similar to today, but a good chance it'll be maybe 5 degrees warmer. Now if you'd said you've lived here your whole life I would have said, "Yep, warm enough to swim".

You get kind of used to it.

Considering there are plenty of casinos in the Seattle area, I don't know that it would do much as far as the state wanting a big say and what it does to the gambling laws.

I can drive 10 minutes and be at a casino that has everything the cruise ships have gaming wise.

What it does to the gambling laws is that you have an unlicenced unregulated casino in the Seattle area which doesn't have to pay any gaming taxes. They also use non US casino staff at a fraction of US wages which their competitors would not like. Need I go on futher.

I see what you are saying, but I have a feeling that they aren't "stealing" away as much business as some might think. What I mean is, there are probably people that would gamble on the cruise, that don't do so even when they have the chance at home. My wife never goes to the casino's nearby, but she likes playing while on the cruise.

Is it against the law? I mean, if was "illegal", how do they get away with it?

The vast majority of the casinos here are Native American/First Peoples casinos. They are sovereign nations. They don't pay taxes to the state.

Hi,

I'm doing the 2 day vancouver to vancouver version of this cruise (May 9th on Sun).

On your two nighters (if anyone's taken one before) do they do pics on the 2nd night? how would they display them if we're disembarking the next day? i might throw on a dress for dinner so might chance a pic opportunity.

This is my way to:

a. get away for a weekend without going very far

b. try ncl for the first time without spending a ton of money, get a feel for the ship etc...

We booked this today - can drive to Seattle in under 4 hours so don't have to deal with the airlines. The Pearl is a beauty - took her to Alaska last September. We didn't bowl then, will see if we can fit it in on a two dayer!

Enjoy your cruise!

How can they have gaming on the 2 nighters from Seattle? I thought the ship docked the next day in Vancouver and that you couldn't have gaming while the ships are in the Puget Sound or Strait of Juan de Fuca?
