pjspin Posted April 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2008 I know it costs like $10 a minute to use the cruise ship cabin phone. But if you use your own cell phone, can you get service to the United States from a cruise ship? We have pay-as-you-go Tracfones. How much will be deducted per minute using a tracfone from a cruise ship to dial a number inside the U.S.? Thanks.

Blackchips Ahoy Posted April 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 14, 2008 I love cruising for a lot of reasons and one of them is nobody is walking around with a phone stuck to their face. I love it! No loud 'look at me, I'm on the phone' conversations going on. No phones ringing in the dining room, in the casino, by the pool, loveit, love it, love it!!:D Don't be a fool. Leave the phone off and if you just can't stand it and you simply must call your broker, girlfriend, boyfriend, divorce lawyer, dog, or cat; My advice to you is to wait until you get to your first port and buy a phone card and use a local land line to make calls. You will save a ton of money and get your insatiable phone fix as well. Or.....Ignore all this, use your phone at sea, and get a phone bill bigger than your mortgage payment.

If I was a huge cell phone fan I would have the latest phone with a long contract I could never be free of. I have a tracfone for emergencies. The reason I asked the question is because I have an older animal who is starting to fail - kidneys, heart, thyroid issues. I've been on two cruises before and never used a tracfone onboard. Never had the need to. Thanks for your response.
