Is it worthy?

I was looking for something special, to celebrate a perfect occasion. I have been recommended Seabourn by my agent. Initially I love the concept of small, exclusive yacht with dedicate and personalized service.

However I find fares, a bit too high. I doesn´t mean, I can´t pay them, but I wonder if it´s worthy what you pay for. I have cruised Siversea, and other premium and I quite enjoyed it. What does make the company to be that special?.

I would love to hear your feelings about it. I have also doubts about what to wear on board. It´s a yacht, casual style, but I wonder what to wear all nights. Of course I will bring my tuxedo for gala nights, but I am not sure about the rest of the evenings.

Thanks in advance.

What makes it worthy? Do you like to be pampered....refered to by name...treated special by all employees aboard....enjoy fine repast....and of course...enjoy the company of like traverers...????? If yes, this is for you. Lola

If you search this forum using the term 'clothing', a wealth of discussions will appear.

If you check out the photos in Granny Lorr's book, you will see what others wear at different times as well.

If you go to the Seabourn website and FAQ section, you will find the clothing guides delineated. (I tried to copy the whole URL, but don't think it was complete.) The number of suggested formal nights is noted in the preliminary cruise brochure.

There are also threads on Seabourn vs. Silverseas. To some it's a personal choice, to others a religion.

I think if you compare the cruise you are interested in to a Silversea cruise at a similar time the pricing will be similar or possibly less. Regent may well be more...if it goes to similar smaller ports.

I would say the biggest difference to me is Seabourn's intuitive service and its being proactive rather than reactive. I also much prefer the smaller size ships and the intimacy it creates. The complimentary caviar and other touches don't hurt either.

It really is a personal preference based, of course, on what is important to you.

Thank you so much to have answered. I do appreaciate you comments.

I probably haven´t explained myself properly, since English is not my native language. Sorry for that. I didn´t want to compare cruise companies, all have their particularities and supporters. When I read the Seabourn brochure, I got more or less the same amount of service. I mean, at least externally. Dedicated service, cabin size and facilities are similar (one has Acqua di Parma, Seabourn Molton Brown, champagne upon arrival...and so on. Ships are similar, and both include mostly the same.

But I have checked two similar routes, and Seabourn costs 35% more (no reductions in any case). You could tell me, well go on Silversea. So I went to the travel agent and asked........What makes Seabourn worthy for this extra 30%?. And told me, everything......but couldn´t give me too many hints on which he based his assessment.

I also appreciate the suggestion of checking the FAQ and the comparision between both. I hadn´t considered Regent, but I have to admit, that Seabourn seems the most appealing option.

Another definite plus is Seabourn's Valet Service ~~sending your luggage to the ship and upon your arrival, your luggage awaiting for you, in your Suite! Upon debarking, simply send your luggage home!

No airport hassels ~

I have used this excellant service many times and for me it's the only way to travel!

Welcome to Seabourn!

>"....Ships are similar."

One thing to remember, is that if a balcony suite is important to you, most of the Seabourn suites have a Juliette balcony which is basically a 'foot' wide and has sliding doors but no place for a deck chair. This is important to some, not so to others. The new ship, the Odyssey, will have many more proper balcony suites.

Also, the casino is tiny if that's a factor.

35% is nothing to ignore, for sure. Good luck!

I am a very strong proponent of Seabourn, but to be honest, if you can go on a similar cruise on Silversea for 30% less (and I kind of doubt that), I would be hard-pressed to honestly tell you the difference is worth it. There is, however, a big difference between those two and Regent. I would, in that instance, probably pay the difference.

Well, just to add my 2 cents.... I have been on Seabourn, Regent, and Silversea. If I had to choose between Seabourn and Silversea, I would choose Silversea. As mentioned in an earlier post, there are more balconies and that is important to me. Also, I found Seabourn to be a bit "stuffy" and the passengers aloof. Every cruise is different (like a theater performance) so it could have just been that particular cruise. But I have sailed on Silversea twice and each time it has been perfect. As a matter of fact, we leave for our third Silversea cruise in one month. The bottom line is you can't go wrong any any of these lines as long as they go where you want and have the type of cabin you prefer. Everything else is pretty comparable. Good luck!

Right, it was 35% less because the travel agent was comparing two different categories. So, I am booking on Seabourn. I am looking forward to it.

Thanks again for your suggestions. I have reading carefully many topics in this board, and everything sounds really exciting.

keltic,

What cruise are you considering on Seabourn?

You won't be disappointed ~~I've said many times, "a Seabourn voyage changes lives!":p The Sister's are gorgeous sleek ships

with food, wines, service, Staff and Guests 6*!~~worth every penny.

As Jane said, our balconies are Romeo/Juliette size. Booking a regular Suite will be most luxurious and comfortable. (I actually like these better ~~the wall to wall window ledge adds more space for storage, flowers, etc.)

Welcome to the Seabourn Family!

Glad to hear it. I didn't want to just jump out there, but I was pretty confident you were not comparing similar things. I am also confident that you made the right decision.

Enjoy! (And please ask any question you may have.)

I want to book on the Pride on the 7th June for the Fjords. I think it´s the perfect ship to get in such a pristine place. Quiet, not fuss....just a relaxing experience.

I am a bit concerned about the ship stability (size) but navigating into inner seas doesn´t make me feel concerned.

In case I need asking something, I will. Thanks

You are right about the balconies. The only advantage of Seabourn balconies over other suites is you can cut out the air conditioning and breath fresh air but other than that Seabourn is best. :)

Done. Already booked. In my previous luxury cruise with Silversea, I found it lovely but too stiff. I know Seabourn is a bit more casual, and familiar. My doubt now it´s what to wear.

Tuxedo of course, dark informal suit, two formal shirts with two ties, three more casual shirts. Not problem as far as nights are concerned.

But the concept of "elegant casual" disturbs me. Of course no shorts, t-shirts. But I am not sure about jean during the day (excursions and in the Verandah café. I know what´s the meaning in premium cruise lines not sure of seabourn. Silversea full of italians meant, Dolce Gabbana luxury sport wear, Versace jeans, and brands, brands, brands.

And finnally what to wear in Ffords in early june. Warm clothes?. Trekking boots?.........uhhhh. Big doubt.
