Consumer Complaints Against NCL

On a cruise ship, Ripple would be expensive stuff ;) (if available that is)

Is Ripple something like the old Thumderbird we drank right out of college and when we were first married? Man did we love that stuff but soon we upgraded to Andre Champange and then recently we have discovered Two buck Chuck, (3 bucks here) lol

At the risk of letting on how old I am: Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill; Ripple; Thunderbird; Mad Dog 20/20.

Hate to admit it but I love the cheap stuff. Expensive dinner wines just sort of leave me cold. Okay, but not much taste to them.

Just bought a bottle of Manacheivich (?) Concord Grape the other night. $3.49 a bottle and we killed the whole thing in about an hour...yummy! :D

A few years ago one of the news shows, Primetime, 20/20, something like that, did a segment on Two Buck Chuck compared to the BIG DOGS. And we're talking $200+ bottles of wine. Guess what? There were many knowledgeable wine connoisseurs who were fooled completely!:D

I have heard that before; we actually do enjoy it and with a bottle a night (that is only a couple glasses each you guys) it is about all we feel like spending. On the other hand a few weeks ago a neighbor dropped by (actually she does a couple times a week) we had a glass of $10 or $15 wine and then opened two buck Chuck: we could really taste the difference, so much we almost didn't want to drink Chucky. Guess what, we did though...................................What the heck!!!

Reading the first post, I could see why they were upset. Their mother died on a zipline on that cruise. Okay. Accidents happen and people get upset.

However, I was on the Spirit in November and experienced none of the other things. The food was good. The bedding didn't stink. The shower was just fine. So I believe their comments were probably based more upon emotion than anything else. My heart does go out to the family for the loss of their mother.

Oh dear Lord, PLEASE forgive me. I'm going to hell for sure as I'm ROTFLMAO. I mean no disrespect for the poor lady who lost her life ziplining and her family. But.................

That first complaint was NOT from the family of the lady who died. It was from someone who happened to be on the same ship at the same time the accident occurred.. They just used that poor woman's death as another reason to complain about how awful their cruise was.

Why the laughter? I would think that if their mom died on the cruise, that would be at the top of their list instead of the poor food and dirty ship! :D

Told you I'm going to hell!

I can certainly agree with some of the things I read in the report... I did not like my NCL cruise. I went once and will never go again. RCI, Carnival and Princess are much better cruise lines, in my opinion. The NCL Spirit was dingy, dirty and dark compared to every other line I've cruised on. The food was simply awful at the buffet and I've never seen so much nickle and diming. The furniture was old and worn. The pool area was extremely crowded and uncomfortable. I didn't like that any time I called room service I was told that it would be approximately 2 hours before they could deliver my order.

I suppose that if I'd never cruised before that NCL would have been an ok experience. But since I do have many other cruises to compare this one to, I have to say that I'll never, ever consider going on another NCL cruise. There are plenty of other places for me to spend my vacation dollars.

Guess it's all a matter of opinion. I too have sailed a lot of other cruise lines and NCL is by far my favorite. To each his own I suppose.

PS: Check out some of the complaints against the other lines. Carnival has by far the most complaints. Go figure huh?

I think you may have missed the point, after the OP posted this was turned into a "I can do one better and more of a joke" read the complaints on all lines, that is what this is about. BTW, I guess things on the Spirit have changed since you cruised her, most reviews are very popular. I always love the "nickel and diming" but no one seems to be able to give examples. This does not refer only to NCL, but most lines. Everyone wants to gripe about this, no one has ever come up with really good examples of where cruise A does more nickel and diming than cruise B, etc. Most of us, find most of the complaints very petty.

How about the person who paid $13,000 each and couldn't use the toilet for 24 hours? This must have been an owners suite/garden villa, and I don't believe for one minute that NCL wouldn't have fixed one of those rooms IMMEDIATELY if there were problems.

Entertaining reading.

Anyone have a laxative to recommend?

Okay, I admit I have a warped sense of humor. I only read about 3/4's of these and was actually laughing out loud. Here's some samples:

"We cruised out of Charleston. Upon return, I found my cell phone bill was over $250 from charges made shipboard. I could find no where in literature that there would be an over 2.00 DOLLAR per minute charge for calls. I felt deceived and ripped off. "

____________

And not only are you hounded constantly by the bar staff, they pass out literature asking you to give permission to your 18-20 years old to be allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages on their ship!

_______________________

As soon as I arrived at the port for check-in, I became aware that the ship would be filled with college spring breakers. I requested an upgrade to an area of the ship away from what was sure to be chaos.... I was told there was no more room anywhere.

_______________________________

Spa was lovely but personnel were thieves.

_________________________-

I went to the Grill on Deck 12 for burgers mid cruise and snagged one hot off the grill, bit into it and spit it out. It tasted like meatloaf. I called the restaurant mgr. who told me that they were running low on hamburger so they extended the meat with something.

_________________________--

We then were accosted each day by waiters/waitresses pushing bar drinks, but if you want soda or a free drink, they ignore you and you get treated VERY RUDELY

___________________________

The cruise was a huge disappointment for us because when we got to Cozumel the captain decided that it was too rough to port there at the dock, so our only glimpse of Cozumel was from the window of the ship. The problem is that there were several other ships there in the port that were able to get their passengers on land. When we complained about not porting the NCL, people were very arrogant and did not offer anything in return for not getting to go to Cozumel.

________________________________

To began with, there was no toilet paper, soiled linens. soiled plates. There was no use of toilets for 24 hrs.

_____________________________________

Then there is the service; they are germaphobes--everywhere you went there was someone standing with a spray bottle of hand sanitizer. I am all for preventing the spread of germs, but this was more annoying than anything.

Did anyone else find some of these ridiculous complaints funny?

Not only ridiculous but very funny as well. :D

Hi Nita:

My cruise on NCL Spirit was in late January.

Here's an example of nickle and diming on Spirit... The main pool area is crowded on this ship anyway, so what do they do?... Remove lounge chairs and set up casino tables out there by the pool! I thought that was a cheap way to get folks to the tables.

I've never seen so many tables set up with t-shirts and costume jewelery. I know that all of the cruise lines do this, but I've never seen such an agressive bunch as I did on NCL Spirit.

This line is just not for me.

guess you haven't cruised HAL. On two different days they set up tables around the pool area and what did Princess do? They used the showroom for their great sale 2 days before the cruise was ending, with very little of value to buy. Now if you are saying they acutally set up casino tables with Black Jack and Craps, I would say that was pushing it a bit. It may not be your line, there is a reason for so many lines, which are mostly filled each sailing, but I really am not sure I would call putting tables out by the pool nickel and diming. Nickel and diming, to me anyway, is making everything you do an extra charge.

My opinion of what nickle and diming is is when they blatently push, push, push you to purchase things around every bend and through every hallway and venue.

...a total waste of time... have you ever heard of anyone who writes to these consumer bureaus to congratulate a cruise line, or a hotel, or a car company, or whatever else. There are 13 other cruise lines on their site with complaints.

My wife will actually take the time to write a company, hotel, cruiseline to issue a letter of thanks for great service and/or products. Other people should take the time to notice these good things, and not all of the bad...

I guess we just didn't see this any different on NCL than other lines. I guess we all do have our ideas as to what nickel and diming is but never heard anyone mention the selling of items as one of them. I think most lines set up tables near the casino at least one night, in the atruim and often the public hallway areas. We were surprised the first 2 days how Princess was pushing soda cards: they had tables set up in the atruim, at the exit off the elevators near the pool and the next 2 levels as well, not to mention wait people selling them or trying to everytime we sat down. It really did not bother us as much as surprise us.

Exactly what I said about my husband. We should all do this, and I believe it would have a positive effect on the person providing the service, resulting in an even better cruise/hotel stay, whatever.

i saw the blackjack tables (around the pool on the spirit).

that's not nickel and diming, that's "honoring" requests. the tables are out there all the time, usually covered and pushed to the railing/shade. during sea days, a dealer will come out and open the tables. if no one plays, they close it up..not usually the case. on our cruise, it was 1 blackjack table and they didn't remove any loungers, since the tables is stored in this area, anyway.

they have room for a couple of more tables, it's over in the non-lounger area by the fitness center windows. that area is only storage, when not used for the BJ table.

since they don't force people to sit down and play, it's not nickel and diming....from what i saw, the people were enjoying it...
