18 year old

My fam is cruising on the Legend in May and I am a little concerned about my 18 year old daughter finding things to do on the ship. We are celebrating her graduation, my son turning 21, and the hub will be 50 soon so really want this to be a trip they will always remember. It just seems she is at that in between age--too old for the teen activities and too young for the adults. Any suggestions?

On the ship 18 year olds can gamble and are allowed into the Disco as an adult at night. They only thing they can't do is drink. Hopefully, there will be some other 18 year olds and they can hang together. She will have a great time.

she'll have plenty of fun! I was 19 on my first cruise (mind you it was with my fiance) but there is plenty to do. All the shows in the evening are open to her, she can go to all the same clubs as the 21 YO. There are usually fun things happening onboard during the day, trivia, games, etc...

She'll find all kinds of things. If you're ok with it she will be legally allowed to drink in ports (I say be careful and make sure she doesn't go overboard) And technically you can buy her drinks onboard (i's not allowed but it's rare to get caught). If that is your idea of a good time.

And if all else fails she can hang out on deck and enjoy the warm sun and salt air!!

newbie me I lost my own thread--:o

I just hope she can meet some her own age because I doubt big bro wants her to shadow him all the time. I wonder why the restrictions on drinking--they are in open waters and Legend is registered in Panama not the US. I mean I don't want to see her get plastered but a daiquari or 2 with dinner and a show should be no big deal

If she can have fun as an 18 year old on land, she can definitely have fun as an 18 year old at sea!

I guess I am most worried about her meeting kids her age--I wonder if they have any kind of meet and greet for that age--that would be nice. She is outgoing and friendly but not likely to just walk up to a stranger and start yapping away.

I have cruised with my 3 children when they were similar ages...I do not believe there is a meet and greet for 18 and over. I do know they have a "singles" meet and greet. My girls usually met their week long companions at the pool and in the Disco. Remember there will be other girls and boys in a similar situation and they all want to make friends. You will be surprised how quickly everyone introduces themselves and begins a friendship. Your daughter will have a wonderful and memorable time.

Our boys have been cruising since they were 5 and 8 and the oldest is now 20 years old.

When he turned 18, he did not miss a beat. He has always found a group around his age to hang with.

There will be a "meet and greet" for "singles" at the piano bar one night.

Also, you did not say WHEN you are sailing, but if you check ROLL CALL - LEGEND (then the date of your sailing) you may find other families with 18-21 year olds coming.

We are sailing May 11th!! YEA!!!

My 20 year old has been in the same boat of in-betweens but she loves to cruise. She gambles and yes, she has had a nightly glass of wine or martini. She is not a big drinker but enjoys the wine with us. She has never complained about not having enough to do or enough people to be involved with, although frankly, she prefers the family holiday with family. All of that said, we still have the "safety" talk before our cruise. Crazies cruise too (and not the good kind.) You daughter will have a great time.

Well, as far as why they limit the drinking to 21 I am pretty sure its for several reasons. One being that a majority of the customers who sail with them are american and so the rules are the same. Like I said, if you're with her you can just put the drinks on your card and likeliehood is she won't get carded. I did this with my fiance. No biggy. and once you have a drink nobody will question how you got it (UNLESS you're very very young).

He would just tell the bar server, "Two drinks of the day" and the server would take his card and off he'd go to get our drinks. never asked me.

Check the Carnival Capers on the first day when you get on board. There is usually a Singles Meet & Greet the first night. She may want to go to see who else shows up.

I also have a 18 year old daughter but we are on the Liberty on June 14. I actually would like her to hang out with the teen club but I guess they are pretty strict about age. Hopefully she meets up with others her age around the pool or at the disco. :)

I don't know why they don't let eighTEEN year olds hang out in the teen club if they're still in high school. They probably still have friends that are 17. There's nothing odd about hanging out with them.

I have an 18 and 20 year old Nephue and niece along, does that mean they can't come to the teen club?

Have you checked out your Roll Call? See if there is anyone else traveling with 18 y/o's also. My niece was 18 and she found great comfort just with the sun and sleeping! we were all amazed that she didn't branch out a little...

I agree on the left out. Just kind of a awkward age I guess. With it being graduation time maybe there will be a bunch of them.

Well kind of embarrased, thought I was still on roll call would be hard to meet up on different ships lol. Still new to this. Duck love your to the point comments.

They are very strict about the age limits... over 17 and no admittance to o2 club... having said that after the first night a lot of the teens go in only to find someone and then drift around the ship. There has to be some cut-off point and the 18yo's can go to the disco/casino that 17yo's can't.

On our last cruise my 19yo seemed to have a drink once in a while..
