Great weekend on the Pacific Sun

Recommended Posts

We have just returned from the weekend cruise Sydney to Brisbane on the Sun. It was a great weekend and I would recommend anyone who is thinking about a cruise but a bit nervous to give these short cruises a go.

We left home on Saturday morning, took the bus to Sydney had lunch in Darling Harbour and then to Wharf 8. Check in was very straight forward and quick, then, as we had an hour or so to wait we went for a walk around. Embarkation was quite smooth and once on board we found our case already in the cabin - impressed with the size of the cabin and also the benefits of a window - only previous cruise we had an inside cabin. We explored the ship, had a cocktail or two and soon it was time for dinner, lifeboat drill and sailaway - how lovely Sydney is at night - going under the bridge, passing the opera house and along the harbour with all the lights was lovely, despite the rain falling by that time.

The weather was not very kind to us - with a fair bit of rain over the weekend and a good swell to test the sea legs but it really did not matter. The captain seemed to steer the ship towards any bits of blue sky he could so it was sunshine and showers. We had enough sunshine to do do some compulsory deck lazing. We joined in a few of the myriad activities and curled up with a good book in Churchill's, saw the shows and of course had too much to eat.

We were in Bordeaux dining room with a very pleasant table including a couple who had been on the Cherry Blossom - 44 nights on board - and they were still loving it. We thought the food was very good - not cordon bleu of course but very good standard and plenty of choice.

Overall, an excellent break away doing something quite different from usual. DH was a reluctant cruiser but he too enjoyed it with no complaints about anything and lots of things he really enjoyed.

A a couple of Kwells put paid to his concern about motion sickness - no problems there- so now, like everyone on this board I am keeping my eye out for specials and planning the next cruise.:)
