Which airport? LAX? Long Beach? other? The Carnival port is in Long Beach, not San Pedro, so make sure you get to the right port.

SNA to Carnival Cruise Terminal 29.4 miles via 405/710.

 

I wouldn't call that "too far", especially since it avoids a lot of the freeway and terminal mayhem getting to LAX. Sometimes the fares are a lot better into LAX, though.
