St. Mark's Basilica advance reservations

The website seems to say now that they are only taking advance reservations 48 hours prior to a visit. Anyone have any ideas about that?

Just got back a couple weeks ago. The line wasn't too bad, but really didnt want to wait in it. If you go around the left side of the building (As you face the front) you can walk right in at the bag check entrance, even if you don't have a bag. We did this twice, the first time there was a church service so we went back a second time. Even if you did have a bag to check, you could walk right in here. I see no reason for a scheduled entrance if you use the bag check entrance.
