I wish Princess would do what Celebrity does and that is the Pool Attendents remove towels that are left on chairs for more than 30 minutes (which means Princess would have to have pool attendents to begin with, I know). I think the cruise ship should take responsibility for ensuring that passengers don't have to be put into an uncomfortable or confrontational situation. On a sea day it does become an issue for many people and it shouldn't.

This is such a tricky issue.

If two people are together, and one gets up to use the restroom, fetch a drink or snack, go back for the book left in the statheroom, etc., it seems reasonable that the companion might 'hold' the chair until their partner returned.

tt

OTOH, if one person gets up at dawn, and the other sleeps in and arrives after lunch... well it is a bit much to 'hold' a chair.

I am not fond of the idea of cruise staff acting as monitors with a stop-watch. Perhaps--if something is really excessive--on could approach someone on staff to intervene?

(Admit that I am not that familiar with deck-chair etiquette.)

At some point on this board, someone posted a tip about removing the cover for the AC vent in the rooms to help with the airflow. I wrote that down and remembered it for our cruise on the Crown in Feb. and it made a huge difference.

The vents are designed in such a way that they push the air sideways at the ceiling level. If you remove the cover, a huge stream of cold air gushes straight down into the room and it cools off in there in no time. We had a balcony room and were always able to keep the temperature to our liking whenever we were in there. If we were going to be out of the room for a while, I'd just leave the cover on and take it back off when we returned. All you have to do is pull down on the four corner connectors and the vent pops right off. To put it back on, simply push the cover back into the connectors. As I said, it made a huge difference. - SF

Thank you. Thank you. I need my A/C cold; at home and away. I will remember your advice since we'll be on Crown in Sept. for 28 days. Is this A/C problem in all the cabins, or just certain locations? We're in a midship balcony on Baja deck.

Hmmm, not really a tricky issue IMO.

Regarding the scallop appetizer in the Crown Grill - liver is not really an appropriate descriptor - it's scallop with foie gras...highly prized as a delicacy by many - controversial to some.

Call it what you want, but foie gras is liver; duck or goose liver. Giving it a fancy name does not make it anything else but liver. YUK!

11. Sabatinis - cant comment, didnt go, but friends of ours said it wasnt italian food like they were expecting. I think they got the veal chop. Said the food was good though.

Thank you for the well balanced review. I agree with much of what you said and the rest I didn't personally experience.

We ate at Sabatini's with an Italian and it was exactly what he was expecting... definitely wasn't Olive Garden. lol Some of the stuff I had to watch him to see how to eat it.:p

We really enjoyed the Crown and hope to sail her again sometime. I'm glad you had a good cruise too, even with crutches.

I have noticed issues on embarkation day, port days & when we had a balcony....which makes a great deal of sense. On embarkation & port days, think of it like running the A/C while idling your vehicle...not very effective, hard on the engine.

Plus our interior/exterior rooms were cooler than our balcony. Just like the opening/closing of doors at home when A/C is on (KIDS!) makes it tougher to cool. But you have a thermostat in your room, adjust accordingly.

Many complain of cool public rooms. I have never really noticed it. I do have a little layer of natural cushioning...but I sit here w/ a jacket on at my desk, so I DO get cool!:p

We didn't have this problem on the Crown, but on the Golden, when we got to our cabin on embarkation day, the room was like a sauna! I asked at the Purser's desk, and the head Purser told me that on turnaround days the AC is, for the most part, shut off due to all the shell doors being open for the better part of the day. We shut our drapes, and by evening, our mini-suite was much cooler.

I'll have to remember the tip about the A/C cover!

We're cruising on the Crown next February so it was nice to read your very thorough review. I agree totally with how you handled the chair hogs. I handled chair hogs in a similar manner on the Grand and it was amazing to see the reaction. Onlookers made very positive comments to me when I would not get up from a chair.

Just got off the ship. It is really a great one. Also had the A/C issue on the first day. Our room steward said that they typically leave the balcony doors open on the first day and everything does get warm. But once things settled down, A/C was pretty powerful in our interior room.

I didn't notice that many issues with chair hogs. Then again, it depends where on the ship you want to tan. It seemed the Crown had plenty of lounge chairs. There's an area between The Sanctuary and the MUTS area that has tons of lounge chairs.
