Move Posted April 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Does anyone know if RCCI offer 1 way transport to Florence on one day and then return to the ship the following day? We have an overnight in Livorno and would prefer to stay in Florence overnight rather than return to the ship for that night. Not keen on the train - it sounds fiddly. thx
GSPLover Posted April 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2008 What do you mean by fiddly? There is nothing wrong with taking the train back and forth to Firenze from Livorno.

If you don't want to take the train then take a taxi or arrange for a private service to take you and pick you up.
janellmartin Posted April 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2008 If you are at all concerned about cost then take the train. They run frequently and on time (unless there is a strike). We did a RCCL cruise with an overnight in Florence, and just took a small backpack with us for our overnight at the Hotel Duomo in Florence. The train was less than $20 RT and we stopped in Pisa on the way back. Very easy.
QQRZZA Posted May 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2008 I used to live there. Recommend you re-consider and take the train. The trains, unlike most things in Italy, run frequently, are on-time, and are relatively cheap. The locals take the trains. Taxis are great for a single day get-away. For an over-nighter, the RR works best. If we were sailing into Los Angeles and wanted to visit San Diego, who'd take a taxi?

We were just worried about the return trip on the train mainly so as to not miss the ship. On all our other 'do it yourself' excursions, we have not had to rely on public transport so we were nervous about the train.
beachbum764 Posted May 6, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2008 Can someone give the specific procedure for the train from Livorno to Florence? I tried to look up online on Italia Rail, but it seems to show 3 stations in Livorno. Which station is the closest to the port? Thank you in advance for any help. GSPLover Posted May 6, 2008 #8 Share Posted May 6, 2008 The station in Livorno is Livorno Centrale. The station you want in Florence is Firenze SMN. For detailed instruction, go to www.ftroute.com/liv_fir_liv.htm (include map, aerial photo, schedules, tips/hints.) Hope that helps.
Angiem Posted May 6, 2008 #9 Share Posted May 6, 2008 These are such good points and thanks so much for that link to train schedule. If you want to stop in Pisa on the way to Florence or on the way back do you just buy a ticket to pisa and then from there buy another ticket to your destination?
