RCI vs. Carnival

Recommended Posts

We are experienced cruisers on RCI and Celebrity. Celebrity is getting too old for us and our teens. RCI is getting too pricey. How does Carnival compare to RCI for a Spring Break cruise?

Been on both. They are very similar. Equal price for an equal cabin I would LEAN toward RCCL. I would not hesitate to go Carnival, they are not called the Fun Shios for nothing. They are NOT, as some would have you believe crowded with drunken rowdies! Food is better (my opinion) on Carnival. More pools and activities on Carnival. Decor slightly better on RCCL.

Any other questions e-mail me.

I too am now for the first time thinking about checking out Carnival ships for our next cruise with my daughter who will be 13 by the time we cruise again. Food in the dining room just wasn't that good on Voyager last month, and my sister got really tired of other peoples room services trays and dishes plus a big linen cart parked constantly right outside her door. She had a broken leg and it was hard for her to get around it(especially when there are storage closets for this equipment) and the food started to smell when she opened the door! The hallways remained cluttered 24/7, so much so that it would have posed a real problem if we had needed to evacuate to a muster.Definite safety issue here! Prices are going so high on RCI that it is ridiculous

I have done both and would sail both in a heartbeat. I am not sure about more pools on carnival though icon_confused.gif

Seems to me they are about the same with pools as RCCL. Food was good on both cruises - Carnival definately has better pizza.

I really enjoyed the explorer, and have two more of that class planned. I have not yet been on carnival's new ships but plan to do so some day.

The Glory entered service last August. The Spirit, Pride, Legend, Miracle, Glory and Conquest are all under four years of age. The Valor enters service this December and the Liberty enters service next summer.

Scout and Jeff,

We have been on both. First 2 on RCI, the last 2 on Carnival. They are very comparable. As long as you are a newer Carnival ship, it is very comparable to RCI. We are booked back on the Serenade on 9/26/04 to Hawaii icon_wink.gif. If we had the option (price etc. being equal) we would choose the RCI of 2 years ago (don"t know what changes have occured since)!!!

Either way, RCI and Carnival have been enjoyable cruises.

We have sailed on both and would do both again. Our opinions were that the service that we recieved on our Carnival cruise was MUCH better than what we exeperienced last month on RC. The Splendour was a much more beautiful ship by far but this cruise did not swear us off of taking any more Carnival cruises. We were on the Splendour during spring break with lots of kids but they were not a problem at all neither were they for us on Carnival.

I wish I could find the RCI of two or three years ago! I would book it in a heartbeat.

I would definitely do CCL. Think about it - for a little more than a RCI inside room, you can get a balcony on CCL. Plus you will have better food and entertainment. Service was good on both ships. But you couldn't beat how beautiful the NOS was.

  • 2 weeks later...

I booked the Mariner a few weeks ago for our next year's spring break. Looking at prices today, the Glory has better pricing during that week. I have been partial to RCI, but obviously haven't sailed enought to be THAT loyal.

Because we have never been on a Voyager class ship, I am concerned we will be disappointed in not having the rock wall, ice rink, etc. However, I am concerned about some of the changes to RCCl I have been reading about and the surcharges. If we end up having to pay for extra for the cruise AND for the extras.....won't be worth it. My daughter loves to do rock walls, etc, she will be 2 wks shy of 12 when we sail.
