wothi Posted April 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2008 We have a family ocean view stateroom at the front of the ship. I am wondering how much motion of the ocean we will feel, mostly at night as I doubt we plan to spend much time in there during the day! emdia43 Posted April 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2008 I can't recall feeling the motion anywhere on the ship. I equate it to walking around a shopping mall,it is so stable- sometimes you forget you are at sea. :)
cruiseguy1016 Posted April 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2008 It all depends on how rough the seas are. If the seas are calm you won't feel anything. If the seas are real rough you will probably feel some movement. It's best at night though, it helps rock you to sleep.
MDSue Posted April 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2008 My first cruise was near the very front of the ship and I didn't notice alot of motion. Sometimes there would be a gentle rocking at night, but nothing of any concern. I've heard the center has the least motion, but I haven't noticed much difference, maybe if the waters were rough. leoandhugh Posted April 28, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2008 you will notice motion only if the weather and seas are rough and the ship is heading into the waves. That is when you get the pitching motion of the bow moving up and down as it plows through the waves. And that is when you may get the most noise as the waves pound the bow of the ship. In most cases, as someone already posted, the movement will lull you to sleep.
lady_cruiser Posted April 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2008 If the seas are rough you are likely to feel every wave. On our last two cruises we were the 5th or 6th cabin from the front and both times we had at least one night of bad weather (8-10 ft. waves). We were even being thrown against both sides of the hallway walls while trying to walk back to our cabin. I love cruising so much I found that even that was an adventure for me. If you want a cabin toward the front, take it. You have a 50-50 chance that you will have great weather throughout the whole trip.

Wendy Hi Wendy, I do not believe that you will feel the motion at all. Enjoy your cruise.:D
mkca Posted April 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 28, 2008 The most motion is felt in the front of the ship. If you want the least, look for the middle of the ship front to back and side to side.
PudgiPoo Posted April 28, 2008 #9 Share Posted April 28, 2008 I think this would depend on where you are cruising, how large a ship, and the time of year. Most of our cruises are in the Carribbean in winter and we always have a few bad weather days. If movement of the ship bothers you if on a smaller ship those cabins will really bother you. If you have cruised before think about how it feels in the theater during rough seas. I love rough seas when I am awake, but I like my cabin midship. I didn't feel any movement anywhere on the Voyager and we had rough seas. It is just so big it takes higher waves to move it. Those big guys are like being on land.
