Is there more trouble?

Recommended Posts

Canadagal posted a thread on April 7th entitled "Partial Air Tahiti Nui Strike". (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=751291) We all held our breath until Vaitape posted on April 16th that the strike was over.

I have been checking the flight disruption page for Air Tahiti Nui every day and they had no disruptions until April 29th when flight 21 from LAX to Papeete was canceled and the flight from Paris to LAX was canceled. Then again today the Paris to LAX was canceled.

I really do not care if I get stuck in Tahiti with no return flight. However, I do worry about getting there. Does anyone have any idea if more trouble is brewing?

Air Tahiti Nui cancels Thursday Paris-L.A.-Papeete flight due to strike

Passengers, who may include French Polynesia President Gaston Tong Sang and members of his government delegation who have been in the French capital for the past nearly two weeks, are being flown to Los Angeles by other airlines, Air Tahiti Nui announced in a media communiqué Wednesday.

Air Tahiti Nui also announced that its scheduled Sunday morning flight from Papeete to Auckland and its return flight from Auckland Sunday night had also been canceled. Passengers with tickets for those flights will be flown on other Air Tahiti Nui flights or on Air New Zealand flights.

Air Tahiti Nui fleet down to 3 Airbus planes until Thursday

(Tahitipresse) - Air Tahiti Nui has only three of its five Airbus A340-300 planes in operation with one plane still grounded in Bordeaux and a second plane now grounded in Tahiti as a result of engine damaged over the weekend by a catering truck.

It was not immediately known how long it will take to repair the damage caused over the weekend. As a result, two flights were canceled and several modifications were announced for other flights this week.

Air Tahiti Nui announced Monday the cancellation of its Tuesday (June 3) New York-Papeete flight TN333 due to Sunday's cancellation of its TN444 Papeete-New York flight. That brings to a total of five flights cancelled this week.

The flight modifications Air Tahiti Nui announced Monday involved later departures from Tahiti and later arrivals in Tahiti for flights to Los Angeles and from Los Angeles and Tokyo and from Paris via Los Angeles.

The three flight cancellations announced last Friday were due to a strike by mechanics working for the company Sogema on an Air Tahiti Nui plane in Bordeaux. That strike is over, but the plane is not scheduled to be back into service until Thursday while it awaits inspection of the maintenance work carried out.

The plane is due to resume flying on Thursday out of Paris, Air Tahiti Nui announced in a communiqué Monday.

The three cancelled Air Tahiti Nui flights announced Friday are:

--The 10pm TN02 Papeete-Los Angeles flight on Wednesday (June 4).

--The TN03 Papeete-Sydney flight on Saturday (June 7) and the return TN44 Sydney-Papeete flight the same day.

Air Tahiti Nui also announced Friday the following flight modifications:

--The TN102 Papeete-Los Angeles flight scheduled for a Sunday (June 1) departure at 10:30 pm has been rescheduled to 6 am on Monday (June 2).

--The TN02 Papeete-Los Angeles flight scheduled for a Monday (June 2) departure at 10 pm has been rescheduled for an 11:30 pm the same night.

--The TN04 Papeete-New York flight scheduled for a Thursday (June 5) departure at 9 pm has been rescheduled for 10.25 pm the same evening.

--The TN03 New York-Papeete flight scheduled for a JFK departure on Saturday (June 7) at 12:15 am has been rescheduled for 1:05 am on June 7.

The Air Tahiti info page has the cancelations listed, but they did not state why. Thanks for the information about the cause of the cancelations. It's nice to know the strike is over. I hope they can patch it with duct tape and get her in the air.

(Tahitipresse) - An Air Tahiti Nui Airbus plane damaged over the weekend in Tahiti is due to fly to Los Angeles Friday night for further repairs, rejoining the airline's fleet of five A340-300 planes over the weekend.

A second Airbus plane that had been grounded by a maintenance strike in Bordeaux, France, resumed flying out of Paris Thursday, according to an official airline source.

But until the second Airbus plane is fully repaired, requiring an estimated 10 hours of work in Los Angeles, Air Tahiti Nui will experience further schedule changes. The airline announced Thursday that two additional flights had been canceled and changes were being made for other flight departure and times and routes.

The 10 pm Air Tahiti Nui Flight TN102 from Papeete to Los Angeles Thursday night was canceled. Passengers for that flight were being divided up on two other Thursday night flights—a 10:25 pm TN04 Papeete-Los Angeles-New York flight and an 11:30 pm TN22 Papeete-Los Angeles-Paris flight.

Also canceled was the TN01 Los Angeles-Papeete flight due to arrive in Tahiti at 6:30 pm Friday. Passengers will be put on the TN03 New York-Los Angeles-Papeete flight due to arrive in Tahiti at 6:50 am.

Air Tahiti Nui also announced that 10:25 pm TN04 Papeete-New York flight Thursday will become a Papeete-Los Angeles-New York flight. The TN03 New York-Papeete flight due to arrive in Tahiti at 1:05 am Saturday will become a New York-Los Angeles-Papeete flight due to arrive in Tahiti at 6:50 am as flight TN201.

And the TN01 Los Angeles-Papeete flight due to arrive at 6:30 pm Saturday will arrive on Sunday at 2:30 am.

Air Tahiti Nui had been operating with only three of its five Airbus planes from the weekend until Thursday. The engine of one of its planes was damaged over the weekend by a catering truck while preparing for loading at the Tahiti-Faa'a Airport.

Now we all know why they have those rubber cones cemented on the sides of the catering trucks at airports. I feel for all those folks trying to fly to Papeete, I wish i was one of those folks stuck in Papeete.
