Dory 123 Posted April 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Being fairly new to cruising, we have just booked our 1st cruise with P&O - Oriana - Canary Islands - April 2009. Can anyone please tell me how many formal / informal nights there are on a 10 night cruise? My 13 yr old daughter is already planning her wardrobe and how many new dresses she needs!!! Also are there any self service irons on board? Many thanks.
BrianI Posted April 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Being fairly new to cruising, we have just booked our 1st cruise with P&O - Oriana - Canary Islands - April 2009. Also are there any self service irons on board? Many thanks. On a 14 day cruise, there are normally 4 formal, 4 semi formal and 6 casual, so for 10days my guess would be 3 formal, 3 semi formal, 4 casual or maybe 2,2,6. Not only are there irons but full self service laundrettes, which are free to use but you have to buy or take some soap powder. To answer your next question, there are hair dryers in the cabins and kettle/tea pot and tea/coffee/biscuits etc. You may not see much of your daughter as she will fit into the oldest 13-17 childrens age group. Extract from website 13 - 17 years We haven’t forgotten our teenage passengers either. They have their own place to hang out and plenty to keep them occupied. So don’t be surprised if you see little of them! We are confident that entertainment such as music, videos, games, discos, computers or Playstations and interactive arcade machines, plus the opportunity to meet new friends, will keep them busy for hours on end. During the school holidays we run specialist activities such as sports coaching and they even have their own club DJ and disco in addition to the normal programme You will enjoy Oriana Brian
Dory 123 Posted May 1, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted May 1, 2008 Thanks Brian Not that I intend laundering clothes on holiday (any excuse to buy more outfits!) but you know how fussy us girls can be - an iron is always useful!! Teen age club sounds brilliant as I also have a 15 yr old son. So maybe this will be our first holiday that hubby and I will have some time as a couple. Can't wait already! LibraLass41 Posted May 1, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2008 We had 3 formals on a 13n cruise, 4 on a 14n and my cruise next week has 5 formals on a 16nighter. So would say 2 formals for you on 10 nights? perhaps 3. Semi formals are still a chance to dress up anyway and lots of woman wear cocktail dresses then Sue
jeanlyon Posted May 1, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2008 Hee hee, I knew there was a reason I chose a child-free cruise! :-)
MattOsprey Posted May 4, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2008 When we were on Oceana, we got friendly with a couple who apparently had a child with them. He was 10 years old and had a great time to say the least. But he rarely saw his parents. They thought they were bad parents, because he was having so much fun without them. I am sure you will all have a great time. We have sailed with 5 companies, and I like P&O best, although they are all great. Enjoy. Matt
Dory 123 Posted May 4, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted May 4, 2008 Thanks for all you replies. We recently did our 1st cruise at Easter with Thompsons - needless to say we've got the cruising bug and booked for next year straight away on the Oriana. After reading all your posts and more I can't believe how excited we all are when we still got almost a year to go!! Can't wait that long!! :D
