GlobeMan Posted May 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2008 We just booked the Uniworld 13 day Splendors of Egypt cruise but I’m having second thoughts – should I have chosen the 14 day Jewels of the Nile cruise? The 14 day cruise adds Abu Simbel and involves two different ships. I don’t like the idea of having to pack up and move to a different ship but I’m sure Abu Simbel is worth seeing as long as we’re in the neighborhood. …or maybe we’ll be ‘Egypted out’ after almost two weeks of ancient ruins and mummies(?). They both leave the same day and Uniworld would probably let us upgrade to the longer cruise without a cancellation penalty. Anybody care to offer opinions? What’s your experience? Thanks, GM
pjtraveler Posted May 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2008 We did the splendors tour in November. The trip to Abu Simbel is an optional excursion with that tour-somewhat expensive but well worth it! If you'll compare prices, I think they're about the same if you add the ABU Simbel excursion. The main difference is the time spent on Lake Nasser with the "jewels" tour. We chose splendors because we were more interested in the sites along the Nile. The "jewels" group joined us on our boat on our return trip from Aswan to Luxor. I'm not sure they had as much time at some of the sites along the Nile as we had. Whichever one you choose, you will have a marvelous experience. Uniworld's tour guides along the Nile are all Egyptologists, and ours was simply great!
