How Much to Tip NYC Porters???

We arrived at the pier early, it was a mistake, lots of confusion with the porters taking the baggage off the ship then you have people trying to get the porters to take their bags so they could check in. No large metal cart to put the on-going luggage in as in most ports.

My husband has to have a wheelchair, no place to sit until I found one for him; at last one of the Carnival people wheeled someone off the ship, thank goodness. I then found a porter who carried our two very heavy bags in, no handcart.

I asked him to go with me to my husband, just a few steps away, so I could get money for his tip; he said “There is no need to tip me”. I almost fell over…..I had to insist before he took the $10.00 tip.
