I will be traveling on Carnival Spirit next January 09, first time on this ship. Have been on other Carnival ships. Its 8 day to Mexico. Whats in store for me on this cruise? How many formal nights and what nights are they?

Any other information would be appreciated.

My 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise on the Spirit (April 13-20) 2 weeks ago was 2 formal nights. The first one was Monday night (day 2) and the last one was Friday night I think. Buffet food during the 2nd formal night was horrible so even if you don't feel up to getting all dressed up, do it. Otherwise plan on going without anything edible. I'm a buffet person but all 6 couldn't find anything good. The chocolate cake was dried out too so the only thing to fill our bellies that was good was the ice cream. The burger grill closes by 6pm every night so if you just have to skip formal, plan on eating at the grill before 6.

Muster drill occurred just before we sailed away. We had time to go back to our balcony for sailaway.

Don't miss the dessert "Bitter & Blanc" in the dining room. My favorite. It is a vanilla bread pudding with vanilla sauce poured over it served warm. Yummy. They did a really good job on cooking everything the way we wanted it. Lobsters were big and very good. Prime rib was tender to me but my friend said hers was tough. Buffet was acceptable most times but there were times that it just didn't cut it so go to dining room if you can.

I took the 8 day Mexican Riviera in Dec 06 on the Spirit

My suggestions and some info:

1. Have a meal in the Super Club- well worth the additional fee

2. There were two formal nights- I rented tux and the system worked well

3. Pictures are expensive- but that is typical

4. The chocolate melting cake is to die for

5. Room service menu is very limited

6. The piano bar can be fun- drop in and check it out

7. Hire Rosie for a private escorted tour in Acapulco - dewdays @hotmail.com. Send her an email with your ship info and she will suggest a schedule- but is willing to adjust to suit your needs

8. If you like lobster and/or shrimp cocktails- order 2 of each to start with- they are very small.

9. The casino got packed- hard to find a seat at 21, double odds on craps, but there were usually machines to be found.

10- The buffet is just that- nothing special- its a buffet don't expect anything better than a mas market buffet at home.

Have a great time

We did the 8 night Mexican Riviera in 2005. There are 2 formal nights. The Spirit is a great ship. Definitely eat in the Supper Club. If Shawn is still the CD she is really good. We enjoyed her. You will love the Spirit.

Thanks everyone who has responded so far. I truly appreciate the information. Glad to hear that the muster drill was prior to leaving. Makes sailaway much better. Will do the supper club. Thanks for the info on Acupolco. I will E-mail Rosie. Do you recall how much she charges? Thought about dinner and watching the cliff divers.

Thanks again everyone.

We love the Spirit class ships, and the Spirit in particular is one of our all-time favorites.

We did the 8-day Mexico on the Spirit out of San Diego in '04 and liked it so much that we're doing it again in November of this year :) Of course, living in San Diego makes this cruise very enticing as well..

Expect two formal nights, Captain's welcome aboard and farewell.. You'll love this ship and this itinerary!

I found & printed the menu from a website that I found here on cc but I don't remember where to direct you. Try a search on the Carnival Forum for the link. Spirit followed it exactly so I always knew what was being served that night. Always looked at the menu posted outside the dining room and it matched so find it online then you'll know what to order in advance.
