steveaaaa Posted October 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2004 After re-reading the Tipping policy in a CCL brochure, I started wondering about something. They state that $0.90 per person per day goes to the Alternative dining service and incentives for dining staff. (based on the suggested amount) So what I want to know is how many "Alternative dining staff" are there. I assume these are the people in the Buffet?Would these be the people who clean tables or the omelet guy? Now lets do some math. 3300 people on a ship for 7 days @ $0.90 per person per day = $20790.00 at a minimum because according to the board everyone tips extra, before, during, after, and even weeks later. That is a large sum of $$. Now my next question is for those who take the tips off the S&S. Who do you give the tips in the buffet to? Do you drop a dollar in an envelope and give it to everyone in the buffet? Because if you remove them from the S&S they lose out and they need to send the money back home,or at least that is the mantra on this BB. GoinCruisin Posted October 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Oh geez, not again... will it ever end? Sorry, I just think it is silly to start threads for the sole purpose of getting people worked up...

SevenVII Posted October 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Yeah Steve, we have enough posts about tipping where we are allowed to chime in our opinions(and we all do). No need to start another one when you know full well where its going to lead, or already have the answer to your question. Maybe read through some of your other posts you started.... :D [u]Just room service,Do you still tip waiter or bus boy? Tipping the Alternative Dining service math Extended cruises...Why extra tipping Tipping the Cruise Director? Tipping in the casino. How much is fair Not tipping waiter and busboy at all. steveaaaa Posted October 6, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted October 6, 2004 ??? I asked a question and I am looking for a real answer.Where does all that money go? Steve PS. For those who sail smaller CCl ships, 1450 passengers $0.90 per day per person for a week =$9135.00 WOW

GoinCruisin Posted October 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2004  Carnival states plainly that $1 pp pd goes to the Bistro Staf (waiters/cooks)... I am going to go out on a limb here and say that for 3300 people, there might be more than ONE of these people... I would wager there are 100's of people that fit into this extra category... Same discussion over and over. And I'll wager another that this isn't the last....
zonemasconi Posted October 6, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2004 alright I admit it it goes to me. you see I have hacked into carnivals main frame and set up thisnon existant group to collect .90 cents per person to further my cruising addiction. how else do you think a man that has only worked 12 weeks so far this year cruise 4 times pay off a timeshare condo in orlando and his property in the woods off at the same time. this is why it is only .90 so as it not being a dollar it would'nt look as suspicious.

I don't see it.Could you please let me know where you got that info. Same discussion over and over??? Where is the discusion on the alternative dining staff getting stiffed because people remove the tips from S&S and do not tip them?Tossing the omlet guy a buck does not take care of the 100's that you pointed out? If I missed that exact topic, I apoligize, otherwise please paste the link here. Thanks Steve
GoinCruisin Posted October 6, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Ask and ye shall receive :D The total amount will be $10 per guest, per day, which breaks down as follows:

$5.50 pp/pd for Dining Team Service (Headwaiter and Waiter)
$1 pp/pd for Bistro Service (Waiter/Cooks)
$3.50 pp/pd for Cabin Services (Cabin Steward)
Tipping the Maitre D' is strictly at guest's discretion, based upon services rendered. For guests who wish to extend this gratuity in cash, an envelope will be available on the last evening of the cruise. Tipping still applies regardless of the dining options selected, such as eating at the casual dining restaurant or utilizing room service. The website is http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Gratuities_Tips.aspx As for "same thing over and over"... it seems there are only a couple people on this board that are so overly concerned and miffed about tipping that they feel the need to post a new thread on tipping daily, knowing what will result... The alternative dining tip has been discussed plenty in the other 4000 tipping posts... You have already admitted once to starting these threads out of boredom... I may be wrong, and forgive me if I am, but I am thinking the same thing rings true here... sorry, it just seems like pot-stirring to me, but that is my opinion only. It is funny that their brochures have something different in them. They do not list the bistro service, they list it as Alternative dining staff and incentives.
