DESTINY Review 9/26-10/03

Just off the Destiny September 26 thru October 3 Cabin 6214 BALCONY Mid Ship

We are 2 Female Cousins 57 years of age and we had a great time and the Destiny was GREAT.

We arrived at the pier at 11:15 asked where the line was, and the Guard said line cannot form until 12:00. Well do not listen if they say that. We followed a group of others that were getting on. They got a Porter and had them take all there luggage and let me tell you they had a lot because they had a group of about 30 people with loads of luggage. So my cousin and I called over a porter that was finished with others that were debarking he took our luggage to the line right behind the others that we followed. We then stood there and someone from the Destiny came up looked at our Docs and gave us our Colored tags because we had Gray tags for TBA. We put our name and number on them. They put a red circle sticker on them and looked at our Birth Certificates and our Photo ID. Told us to stay right here till the doors opened up. Then the door opened and we went in at 12:00. They scanned our carry on. Then we went to another person who looked at the Docs and told us to go over to another line, we were number 3 in that line and there it was look straight ahead and it was the Destiny. 12:05 We were the very first ones to get on the SHIP. How wonderful .We went right to the Sun and Sea Restaurant before going to the Cabin because the cabin was not ready to go too until 1:30 we sat and had a great lunch.

You are allowed to bring Pop and Water on Board, and you can also bring Alcohol, But, I would put the Alcohol in my Carry on if you are planning on bringing it on the Ship.

We bought a 12 pack of Coke in St Thomas, we put it on the scanner when we returned to the ship and they said nothing about bringing it on. We went with a friend to a fellow who made homemade WINE in Barbados, I put it on the scanner at the ship in a plastic bag, and they let it threw with no problems. We had meant 2 other people at our Hotel, and they said we are not allowed to bring drinks of any kind on the ship BUT that is not true. We brought liquor, pop and water from other ports and we just put the bag on the belt of the scanner and they did not take it away.

As for the Ship I thought that it was in good shape. The Balcony was great to open your eyes and see the water. The sunsets, sunrises and the FULL MOON was

beautiful to see it from your own room instead of having to go to the deck I will not cruise with out a BALCONY. I went to the deck 5 different times and it was empty.

Casino was not too good to me. Bingo either. But it was still great.

Dinner was not as good as I thought that it would be. I am comparing that with RCCL.

RCCL was more attentive. We had to flag down someone every night to get something none alcoholic to drink, but if you wanted the alcohol they were right at your table when you sat down. Sun and Sea on the Lido Deck was great. We ate a few meals there. You can have all you want to drink they have the stands right near the Lido deck too. I took my own water bottle with me and kept it filled all day while on the Lido deck and on the excursions.

Monday St Thomas

We did Godfrey in St Thomas. If you are thinking of doing anything get a hold of him.

He was very attentive. After shopping he will lock your goods up in the vehicle while you are swimming. His tour of the Island is very informative. He also takes you to the Mountain Top for some beautiful pictures and videos.

Tuesday Dominica

A very poor Island. We did not tour here, but I hear it is beautiful.

We just got off the Ship and went to see what the shopping was like. Lots of people begging for money from little children to very old adults.

Wednesday Barbados

Oh now that was my DAY. We had meant a gentleman on another cruise last year. He sent a car for us at 10:00 AM. We toured the Island with him Scotty and oh what a nice tour. Saw lots of the Island. Even where the Rich and Famous come to stay and where they go golfing and where Tiger Woods is going to be married and staying VERY NICE

After the tour, we went straight to the Boatyard to meet our Friend NIGEL. We had a nice visit and lots of chat. What a great beach there and the water so clear and warm. We took pictures of the sunset over the water. They are just BEAUTIFUL

Thursday and Saturday Sea Days

Explored the ship and sat at the pool with foo foo drinks most of the day.

Friday ARUBA

WONDERFUL ARUBA We rented a jeep with another couple that we meant last year on RCCL they were on the Golden Princess. Took a Tour of the Island went all around the Island If you go to Aruba, you have to do this. It was great. We also went to Baby Beach to swim. Saw lots of people wind surfing also. Now that looks like a great time.

I think if you do not have a good cruise, it is your own fault. Our Cabin Attendant was the GREATEST. He made us feel very special. We asked and he gave us everything that we needed. We both have problems with our knees, and we cannot sit in those low chairs that they have on the Balcony, so we asked him for a different chair. And it was there the next time we looked out on our Balcony. So if you cruise and you want anything at all just ask, they cannot read your mind. We also had room service a few times we gave 2.00 bills and a small package of M&M’s They seemed to like that alot

Well I am back home, but I sure do miss the ship. I now have my sea legs back and am starting to fill right at home with cooking and washing and cleaning. But all in all I can say that I had a great time on the Destiny and I would definitely go back.

Already looking in for a cruise next September.

I wish I could say that I had a good experiance with Carnival Destiny as well, but I can't! It was my first cruise so I had no idea what to expect, but I do know that I will never cruise on the Destiny again. I was surprised at not only the quality of the food, but it was also difficult to remember when certain food stations were open. We seemed to live on burgers and fries from the grill whcih was only open till 6pm, and then sandwiches and pizza for the rest of the night. The food from the buffets lacked flavor and the desserts seemed like they had been frozen for a week or 2. We booked a carnival cruise becasue we were looking to be on a party ship and one with a lot of activities on board, but thankfully we also booked rooms with balconies because we spent more time then expected in them since there were not alot of onboard activities. The activity staff was allright, but one in particular named Richie was extremely rude and disrespectful to a number of passangers. I felt that he was way to imature to be working as a member of the activity staff.

Our cabin stweard was exceptional though and we talked to him more then any other staff member on the ship.

We were also dispaionted with the quality of some of the excursions and would probably wait till after we got on shore to book some of the excursions. One of the days we got tickets to go on Screamer a high powered jet ski boat that was suppose to be fast, exciting with many twists and turns etc. It was a total waste of time and money and the only reason we got wet was because one of the crew members poured water all over you to get you excited.

I have to say that I would not recommend this particular ship to anyone. For our first experaince cruising I was extrmemly disapointed..

LM1, sorry to hear that. Maybe you should move this over to the P,P, & F Destiny thread. I'm sure there are a few, myself included, that might have questions for you as to why your experience turned out as it did. Maybe we can help others in not having a bad experience too.
