DqALEX Posted May 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2008 There needs to be more posted on this subject. Price, meals, cabin size. How far do you have to book in advance? Is it like on TV where people hop a Freighter at night in the fog? I would love to see some pictures from cruises people have taken on a freighter. Thanks Alex

Is it like on TV where people hop a Freighter at night in the fog? I would love to see some pictures from cruises people have taken on a freighter. Thanks Alex Alex, i myself have taken two container ship voyages, the 1st in 2004 & the 2nd in 2006. The first voyage cost around £2,300, & was for a 7 week return trip from the UK to South Africa. My second cost around £2,600 for a 23 day one way voyage from the UK to Hong Kong and included hotel & return airfare. It is advisable to book as early as you can, if you are after a specific route or date, as freighters take no more than 11 passengers, but typicaly they will not accept bookings over a year in advance. The food on both trips was silver service & of a high standard and plentyful, & is served in the officers mess. Depending on passenger numbers you will either be seated on your own table, or as was the case on my two trips seated on the captains table especially on the 2nd one as i was the only passenger aboard. I have included some links to photos that i took, whilst onboard, they show both the ships pool plus officers lounge, where you can enjoy a drink or two with the captain & his officers. By the way cabins on both ships was very good, & again on the 2nd ship as good as any 5 star hotel. Thanks for all of your advice to me, hope your holiday is exceptional. Regards, Aileen Thank you very much Aileen, & your very welcome for the info. I too hope everything goes OK only 5 weeks now :D. Not long now for your own adventure now as well, you really are in for a treat & i really am jealous. So much so that i have made inquiries with strand travel, about the same journey as you & your husband but the other way round Australia to UK. But as i will not be able to travel untill 2010, i've been told to contact them again around this time next year. Regards Mark :)
