lhall85917 Posted May 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2008 I've read how much everyone enjoys the Romance Package and I'd love to book it but we aren't interested in eating at Le Bistro. There really isn't much on the menu that I'd enjoy (at least before 2.0 was implemented). Has anyone been able to switch restaurants and use this for a different one? Or do you know if the menu has changed with 2.0 in place?
cassrebecca Posted May 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2008 I don't know first hand but I have read on the Boards before that people have switched restaurants. Maybe someone who has done this will pipe in...... It is such a nice package....I hope it works for you:)
salty dingo Posted May 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2008 On Majesty, Le Bistro is the only surcharge restaurant. However, on other ships, I see no reason they would not extend the same Le Bistro credit to another restaurant. I would speak with the Maitre D' at the restaurant where you want to eat, and ask if you can use your Le Bistro credit there. I suspect you will be able to. Lubbock2006 Posted May 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2008 Glad you posted the question. I booked the "Romance" package on our upcoming "Star" cruise but I now have questions. How does the restruant know that you are entitled to the benifits? I thought the package was mostly wine but what else is included?
hypercafe Posted May 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2008 I tried to switch to the steak house on the Dawn and pay the extra charge and was told there are no changes allowed.
cruizinwithkids Posted May 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2008 I tried to switch to the steak house on the Dawn and pay the extra charge and was told there are no changes allowed. I believe this is what you will find. If people answer differently be sure it is current info. We recently bought the romance package and as platinum latitudes also received dinner at LeBistro. Neither could be switched. We ended up only eating once in LeBistro as we were dining most nights with friends and wanted to try all the restaurants. There should be a "letter" in your cabin when you embark - or shortly after which you then have to bring to LeBistro (make a reservation first) when you dine. Not a problema at all. The Romance package includes a bottle of sparkling wine, chocolate covered strawberries, served in your room (usually at embarkation) Dinner for 2 at LeBistro including a bottle of house wine, the waiters will come and sing "Let me call you Sweetheart" during dinner (or Happy Birthday) - serve a 1 layer cake (which you can take back to your room if you like) There will be a "Party" timining of which will be in your letter - cake and champagne (one glass) Free 8x10? photo - taken during the party. It's a great package we use it every time we sail.

I can tell you we didn't order from the LeBistro menu for our entree for $10 extra per person ($20 total) we upgraded to Surf & Turf and ordered the appetizer & dessert from the menu. It was well worth the money.
cpdad Posted May 16, 2008 #9 Share Posted May 16, 2008 ...The Romance package includes ... Dinner for 2 at LeBistro including a bottle of house wine, the waiters will come and sing "Let me call you Sweetheart" during dinner (or Happy Birthday) ... Thanks for the "heads up" on this feature. I bought the package simply because it is a good deal, especially with the recent increase in surcharges. I will want to nip this extra "benefit" in the bud, as it were - no singing waiters for me, thank you. ;)
dougweaver Posted May 16, 2008 #10 Share Posted May 16, 2008 I have been told you need to call at least 2 weeks ahead for this package. Question .. when you call do you make reservations for the LeBistro then or do you have to wait until you are onboard? Thanks dpw

mbisson Posted May 16, 2008 #12 Share Posted May 16, 2008 Even telling 'em "it's not our anniversary, we just bought the package for the wine & dinner" didn't help us. They just mumbled something about "romance" and sang anyhow ;) Doug-when you get to your cabin there should be a letter stating details (as well as your sail away wine/champagne). Reservations are made when you are on the ship. We had a problem one time in that they delivered the wine & not the letter (it's needed in LeBistro). We had big problems in that without the letter they wanted to charge us for the dinner, and no one on board would give us the letter as they were sure we had received it and already used it for a dinner. It was a royal PITA!

Thanks dpw You can fax the order in but you need to make Le Bistro reservations once on board. The good thing about the package is your guaranteed a reservation there. Also, I was able to upgrade my bottle of wine for $10. It was the best meal and service we had!:D I didn't need to take the letter, they knew we had the package. smeyer418 Posted May 16, 2008 #14 Share Posted May 16, 2008 It is not now nor has it been transferable to another rest. That's the rule. We tried it a couple of times on different ships and we were in the owners suite where they will do anything they can for you and the answer has always been "No"....I am sure it has been allowed sometime and you can always ask but the rule is that it isn't allowed. We also never been sung to....and that was good! I think I have done it 6 times already :)

garycarla Posted May 16, 2008 #17 Share Posted May 16, 2008 when we showed up for dinner, they asked for the letter. Told them we did not have it. They pulled out a sheet that had everyones name on it that bought the package, and checked us off. The photo is another story. You better bring the letter, or no photo. they will write on the letter that you redeemed your free photo. And those photo guys will not deal. We were looking at 3 different pictures, and could have bought the 2nd one for $10 or was if $15 - crazy either way. And a larger, maybe 8x10 for $24 with the Captain. This was at 8:30 on disembarkation day. No deals.

Is it a standard-sized bottle (750 ml)? I ask because a new review of a recent Star trip to Alaska referred to a "...small bottle of champagne was chilling....". Also, does anyone recall what the included "house wine" is in Le Bistro? Thanks.

Thanks. We had a regular size bottle of champagne in room. Not sure what the brand was, but that one and the one I won in the Casino later that night both were consumed. Just the regular house wine. We bought many bottles while onboard. Not bad. They normally charge about $25 plus auto tip at dinner for it.

Its the same champagne as they give you when you get on board in a glass nder Freestyle 2.0 and its a full 750 ml bottle. The House Red and White are Ca wines La terra if I remember correctly. The had a new "free" wine list that is more extensive(I had a chit for a free bottle last trip and the free list was quite extensive) but that was in the Italian restaurant. You can also buy up from the free bottle using the free one as a credit in Le Bistro.
yoyocruiser Posted May 16, 2008 #22 Share Posted May 16, 2008 Just a suggestion--I'm not sure what it is about the menu that you don't like--but I would recommend going by Le Bistro and checking with the maitre' d or even the chef regarding the possibility of them preparing something that is NOT on the menu, or perhaps differently than on the menu. I mean they probably can't totally cook up something different--but if you want a more plain steak or whatever, they may be willing to cook that for you. The meat served here is superior to in the other dining rooms I think. It might not work, but soemtimes the chefs like to do something different IF they ahve the food there available to do it. Just a suggestion--might not work--or it might work on some ships and not others. By the way, we ate there and found it to be fabulous.

smeyer418 Posted May 16, 2008 #24 Share Posted May 16, 2008 The cake is a communal cake at a party they give for everyone who has the romance package. My wife refuses to go. Anyone one want to go as my wife on the 8/30 majesty cruise---you have to already be on the cruise I am not taking you and my wife on the cruise (although if you are 21 and pretty you can go as my nurse :)) this is just to the cake party :)
VoyageVirgin Posted May 16, 2008 #25 Share Posted May 16, 2008 cassarebecca - We have always had the cake brought to the table at LeBistro - and they sing. Sorry you missed out. Not sure how that could happen - Smeyer - The communal Cake is served at the Anniversary/Honeymoon party - At least this has been our experience with the ships we've sailed NCL
