Druke I Posted May 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2008 Our 1st trip to Brazil, way back in Dec 91, we got our own Visas through the Brazilian Consulate in San Francisco. Dropped off the paperwork (and our passports) in the AM, went to a Seaman's Medical Center for required shots, had lunch on Fisherman's Wharf, and picked up our passpots and Visas in the afternoon. For our 2nd trip, Mar 98, we used one of the Visa services recommended by the cruiselines, as we were told that we could no longer "drop by" the Consulate and expect one-day service. PVCruiser Posted May 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2008 We have been happy with the visa service by Zeirer (http://www.zvs.com). You pay a premium for the service but it is worth the expense in my opinion. (-: Jack
StanandJim Posted May 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2008 Has anyone gotten a Visa (for Brazil) that wasn't done through Oceania or your TA? We decided to do a last minute "Got a Good Bonus" Cruise earlier this year. The itinerary that really interested us was the Regatta to the Amazon in February. Luckily, we work in Manhattan, just steps from the Brazillian Consulate. After plunking down our cruise deposit, we decided to skip a lunch and apply for our Visas. Well, let me tell you, the Consulate staff were the most unpleasant, nasty, "looking for a fight", group of people we have ever had the misfortune to meet. Two different officials actually said, " The USA makes it difficult and expensive for Brazillians to get USA visas, so we make it difficult and expensive for you". They were so rude,in fact, that they soured us on the whole idea. We went back to our office and switched our deposit to a Caribbean itinerary (round trip Miami, still on Regatta). If we do venture to South America, in the near future, it will be to Argentina. You can keep Brazil.

All the more reason to use an outside visa service. Let them deal with such situations!!
