Wheelchairs at NYC Pier?

Hi everyone. In about 2 weeks we will be taking the Spirt out of New York City. My mom-in-law may (or may not) need a wheelchair during the boarding process. Does anyone know if they are available at the pier in New York City.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I do not know if they have any at the pier. It is possible.

I took my mom a few years back and brought her wheelchair.

Does your MIL have one to bring? I don't know the circumstances but, if she needs it for the boarding process, she may need it onboard for when/if the seas get rough, and also for other ports during the cruise.

Wheelchairs are available at NYC pier. They are furnished by NCL and assisted by NCL personnel. You will be placed in a handicapped area and escorted on the ship among the first to board. The chairs, however, are then returned to the pier for use of others and not left on board. On the Gem, there was a notice that wheelchairs could be arranged for (rented?) for shore excursions. I would advise checking with the special needs department for the newest answer.

We rented a wheelchair for MIL during our Jan. cruise from Carevacation. They are the #1 rental for cruise ships. MIL could walk okay, but would get tired so we thought the easy way for her to get around was to have one handy especially if the waves got the ship a rockin. She would either sit in it or just push it. Even the crew would come and get her if we where not around.

Phone # 877 478-7827 or csa@carevacations.com

It really gave us peice of mind when she was was on her own.

As EileenN stated, I would also call "special needs" department and check on the newest answer. You may have to submit your name so that they have one available for you.

When DH broke his foot just before our cruise, we rented a wheelchair from home and brought it with us.

When we were disembarking however, several passengers in the waiting area came up to us and asked for our wheelchair so I'm not sure how many NCL has available for embarkation.

I should of noted that carevacations brings the wheelchair to the port and has it waiting for you at ckeck-in. When the cruise is over you just leave it in your cabin or at the dock. They are really easy to work with and I think the price for the week was $160.00??

When I made my reservation, I requested a wheelchair for boarding and disembarking. I will be able to manage aboard ship. They very kindly told me that there would be a chair for me.
