Favorite Places to Stay in Anchorage?

We'll arrive in Anchorage a few days before our ship leaves from Whittier? Any recommendations on where to stay? I realize things may be booked up.

We stayed at the Extended Stay Deluxe downtown (8th Ave.) the night our cruise ended, and at the Holiday Inn Express near the airport the night before we flew home. Both were very nice. We'll stay at Homewood Suites for several nights in August. It gets very good reviews at Trip Advisor.

If you know the dates you want to stay try making a bid on priceline. To find out what the winning bids are coming in at go to "Biddingfortravel". I did this back in July of 2005 and was very happy with our winning bid at the Sheraton. Remember once you go past May 30 its tourist season in Anchourage and it can be just as expensive as Rome Italy for the time of year. Tim
