How was the Dream THIS week?

Recommended Posts

Hi edlou,

Thanks for your detailed review. Those of us new to the Dream have been waiting to hear others impressions of this ship compared to the familiar Majesty. I'm looking forward to another trip to Bermuda docking one last time in St. Georges (hopefully the weather in August will be more cooperative than on the earlier cruises this year). You mentioned having lunch in a park in St. Georges--where is the park? Also, could you give directions to walk to Alexandria Battery? Thanks for sharing.

Hi,

When you get off ship walk straight ahead , go past Town Square /Water St. The next block ahead will be Duke of York St. Turn right on it . As you walk a coupleof blocks, you'll see the town's only grocery/deli on your left and about another block, again on your left is what I called the park. It's actual name is Somers Garden. It is beautiful. Keep walking , make sure to bear right to stay on Duke of York St. You'll begin to see harbor on the right and end up near " The Cut". Walk a bit more and you'll see a little beach. Bingo, you are now at Alexander Battery. I think that I previously called it Alexandria Beach Park but that is not the correct name. There is some glass on the little beach but as I said previously, walk the seawall, on the right side, until you come to the cave.

Have fun, Louella

Hi, I neglected to thank you for your yesterday's note. We got home just in time for ED to watch the Indianapolis 500. What time did the last people get off the ship, any idea? FRom what I heard it was pushing 11:30/12:00. I also heard that the terminal was a real mess with people trying to get off the ship and others waiting to get on. We sure had a good time but still prefer The Majesty.

perhaps a silly question, but how early might one have to get up to enjoy a lounge chair by the pool?

Not to place a towel and leave, of course, but is this at all similar to beach resorts where the early birds get the chairs?

Since our debarkation didn't happen until almost 11 (10:45 to be precise) I wouldn't say you were too far off with that figure. They called your color first and then it was followed by Lime (mine) and the deck above us. We were called together but the line to get off the ship at that point was back to the mid-ship staircase and they still hadn't called the remaining three decks with staterooms. It was a mess in the terminal with luggage and people everywhere. It's far too small a place to have people showing up early for their cruise and get your bags to leave yours. Numerous people asked if we heard when they could board! I told them expect it to be another hour or so since they're still debarking the ship. One couple thought I was lying I told them to go over to the fence and look for themselves. :p

Glad to see you made it home alright. The Indy 500 huh? I haven't ever sailed on the Majesty and never will either. The Dream has its flaws but she was an ok cruise. Nothing could screw up as bad as Carnival. I'll never sail them again no matter the size of the ship. The Dream was just a wee bit too small for me and the Majesty being smaller will never happen. I prefer ships in the 88,000 to 120,000 grt range. :D

CruisinMaterial and edlou: what deck(s) were you on? Just curious about your debarkation. As for us, we're in NO HURRY to get off the ship -- in fact, they can let us stay for another trip to BDA!

We'll drive to the pier (about 50 minutes from our house) and we'll get there around 11 or so (despite what you all have said about what time to get to the pier) as this is what we've done in the past sailing on the Majesty; I'm sure they'll get the bugs worked out and this will be a perfect time for us to get to the port.

We loved the size of the Majesty -- just enough people, and you really get to know the staff. We will, however, miss the crew of the Majesty -- they were the BEST in the fleet...:(

Hi, As I said in our review, we were onboard around 11:40, eating a little after 12 noon and our cabin was ready when we first registered. We were on deck 7, the first to disembark after express folks. Yes, we agree, The Dream was fun but The Majesty was even better. Oh well --- come next year we'll have The Spirit, I believe, out of Boston and will have to start all over, learning a different ship.

I was on Deck 5 - Biscayne Deck. It's the sandwich deck between the deck beneath the Promenade (6) and the hold (Deck 4). Deck 4 really didn't have a lot of passengers on it from what I heard the crew saying on our sailing. We were the second group called off with Deck 6. Deck 7 went first and we were called at 10:45AM but the line for the two decks was back into the aft stairwell and down the stairwell to get off. I can imagine that didn't get cleared until after 11AM.

I see the ship is in St. Georges this week. :)

Good morning Louella,

I'm interested in why you prefer the Majesty over the Dream.

This week will be our 10th. to Bermuda, 9 on the Majesty.

Also, what deck do you board on the dream? it was alway 5 on the Majesty.

Lastly, Was the casino better on the Dream?

All the best.

Band Guy....

I prefer the Majesty also, I like the layout much better. I dont like on the Dream that most things are all together like the casino, theater, bars i felt like i was always walking thru something....I like things spread out more. For me it seemed like the ceilings may be a bit lower in some of the rooms.

Its been awhile since I have been on the Majesty but i do like the casino on the Majesty much better. The dream seems smaller it has the tables on a higher level in the middle of the room with the slots on both sides a few steps down. I also dont like that it doesnt give you back paper receipts it gives you money which is fine but they have alot of nickel/penny machines so you end up with alot of change...(hopefully) that you have to keep turning in or carry around. When we went on the CTN there was always a line at the cage window.

Also, i like the pool area better on the Majesty and the buffet area off the pool. Unless I missed something on the Dream, since we weren't in the pool area much since the weather was terrible, I dont like the sports bar for the buffet....I think it is too small and the flow doesnt seem to work so great.

When we boarded we got on deck 6... Other than that dont get me wrong the Dream is nice but just not my favorite. From what I hear from Dotty S. you always have a great time on your cruises so I am sure things will work out where ever they put you to perform! Have a great week and I hope some day to be able to join your cruise group in the future!

Hi Paula,

I liked the Majesty because it wasn't too big and we got to know it so well.

Hey, we're already booked for the Spirit next May 29th. and we'd love to have you come with us. We expect to have a great group with us next week as usual but we'll all really miss Dick.

Take care,

Dom

Hi, To answer your question---- we probably, down deep, liked The Fantasy simply because she was so familiar to us. However, her layout is not as chopped up as The Dream's nor is her atmosphere. Sorry, not a good answer but=========. Have fun, Lou

Band Guy,

The Dream is bigger than the Majesty but didnt seem it too me. I actually thought it was smaller. We were only on the weekend cruise and we saw the whole ship..it is easy to find your way around. Actually in one sense it is good that everything is together you get to see the people in your group more often since things are close together.

Dick was a great guy and he sure will be missed on this and all of your cruises....he holds a special place in everyones hearts. You will like the Spirit better next year..but it is much bigger so you will have to get use to that. I would love to join you but my husband works at a high school and can't take that week...some year you will have to go in the summer!! Guess I will have to just listen to you guys on the land....

Hi Paula,

We have a lot of friends that can't go as early as we do but you never know.

Hey you might win the lottery! The idea of the Spirit is exciting but that will mark the end of our St. George's concerts. Maybe they'll ask us to play in Dock Yard. It looks like the Dream has a nicer theater facility than the Palace on the Majesty.

Thanks for the review. We go on June 22 [23 days to go]. Our group has 9 cabins, 4 balcony's 5 windows on deck 8.

Where did you make the bed request? All rooms have a frig, correct?

You indicated that many people that were very angry/upset because they did not have enough points. Was this because they did not have a players card or have their point recorded or both?

No, all cabins do not have frig's. I asked my online TA , at time of booking, to request from NCL that the twin beds be pushed together to make a queen and to have a frig in cabin. Both requests were carried out by NCL. Have a great cruise, Louella

Sorry, I forgot to answer your other question. With no automatic play counter ,such as is the case on older ships like The Dream, it is important that one check in before beginning to play. By doing so, your play is correctly manually recorded. Many people were upset because ,even though they had played a great deal, they did not get enough points for an on board credit. Had they checked in each time, as we did, their points would have been recorded and their chances for credit to their on board account would have improved.
