Thinking of booking on the Glory

Would appreciate any feed back on the Glory--seriously thinking of booking in July 2005. What does everyone think of the ship, which is the best deck to book a room, etc. I've been on the RCCL Voyager class ships many times, how does this compare???? Thanks all!!

We sailed the Glory this past March and loved our cabin! We had 7440, which was a cat. 9A with a wrap around balcony on the Empress deck. We had no issues with noise, soot on the balcony, or anything else for that matter. Please note that having an aft cabin on a ship this long (952 feet), usually means you have quite a walk to most things. As a matter of fact I ended up losing 7 lbs. on the cruise because of all the walking. Like I said, I loved the cabin.

I also had an aft cabin,I think 7100. It is quiet there.

I have done the Explorer of the Seas (Voyager class) also. Here are the differences I noticed:

Entertainment: EOS was better. They had a show every night, great headliners and ice skaing show. Glory had only four shows. Two with "vegas dance" stuff. These were medioce, as the singer were lipsynching.EOS also had those cool parades.

Casino- I think they are all wretched. I live in NV and never gamble, why would I do it on a cruise?

Cuteness- RCL is not cute. CCL has Fun Ship Freddy! He rocks!

Cookies- RCL had better cookies, softer than CCL. They were the only thing worth eating from Cafe Promenade.

Ice cream- CCL give you your choice of soft

serve or frozen yogurt, RCL just has some frozen icey stuff.

Service- Glory was better. We had prompt cabin service every day.

Food- Glory was way, way better. CCL pizza was fresh, RCL was frozen. Lobster, steaks, burgers, there is a lot there. If you're a chocolate lover, they had more chocolate deserts. The fish and chips was good, but the deli is really good. The outside dining options are way better than RCL.

Ship design- EOS. It feels roomier. At times, the Glory can feel congested. However, often, on the EOS, I felt too isolated from the ocean and felt like I was in a huge hotel, rather than a ship.

Booze- CCL gets the nod. EOS has cheap champagne at formal night, Glory had mixed drinks. CCL also has cheaper drink prices

Fine dining pay restraunts- Almost a tie. I preferred Portofinos to the Glory supper club because they offered italian food. The food in Emerald room was no better than any fine quality state side restraunt. I don't know if that makes sense. However, I think it would appear to be more spectacular if the food in the Glory dining wasn't as good . Some of the food on the EOS was just bad.

Smoking- I hate it, but it was not a problem on either ship.

My personal-not worth-a dime opinion- I would take the Glory over any RCCL ship. In fact, I almost booked it for this Xmas again. They were offering bargain rates. I opted not to because, as nice as she was, I couldn't see myself doing the same ship, same ports twice in six months. However, my sister is taking her family on it because she is one cheap cruise, cheaper than the Mariner and I think her adult children will enjoy the Glory more. I would go on the mariner if it was a lot cheaper than the Glory and spend the saved $ at Portos.

Don't ake me as a RCL basher, I love them! I may never cruise them again, but I own stock in them and it has performed quite well. I also own CCL stock, but more than RCL. Now, that's putting your $ where your mouth is!

Well as my DH mentioned (neverenufcruising) there are little differences on each of them. I will say that I love the decor on the Glory. I liked the dining room better on the Navigator and Mariner though. Obviously, the promenade is different but, the Glory had some neat shops too. The disco is better on the Glory. More room, more accessible. Service has always been good on both cruise lines. Although, I must admit Navigator had an awesome Gala Buffet. Totally beats Glory. It all depends on what your favs are the ships. That being said I'd do either of them again in a minute. Had a great time. As a matter of fact, we are doing the Navigator again next year.

Ah, the Glory dining room... tables are so closely packed that it can be daunting trying to navigate the obstacle course of tables and food stands to go out to the bathroom.

However, my biggest complaint was the nightly "entertainment". Every night, (when we were in the middle of the main course), they would crank up the music (Ricky Martin, Tina Turner, etc) and the staff would all line up and dance to it, some with flouresent wigs.Ok, it was novel at first, but every night they would do the same thing, different song. It really got annoying.

I've done the Glory last year in September and the Mariner last month. I'll give you a little comparison:

Cabins: CCL's cabins are a little larger (not much) but I liked the decor better on RCL

Entertainment: Carnival has way more (and better IMHO) entertainment than RCL, on Mariner was the first time I ever had bored spells on a ship.

Food: I loved the Windjammer on Mariner but CCL has more variety (i.e. deli, etc.), CCL has the best pizza at sea, I went to Chops on Mariner (did the supper clubs on Glory and Conquest). Chops was very good - in my opinion it's a great steakhouse - but I can get that here. CCL's supper clubs have excellent food and service and have more menu varieties and way better atmosphere. Dining room menu is definitely better on Carnival. I did like Cafe Promenade on Mariner, those little sandwiches were excellent.

Room Service - definitely CCL. Had to wait over an hour for just a pot of coffee a couple of times during mid-afternoon.

Drinks - they may be a little cheaper on CCL but they're a lot stronger on RCI.

Pool areas - I like the pools on Mariner better, especially the solarium pool.

All in all, I like both lines. Each of them has its pros and cons.

I loved the Glory last September, we had the best cabin steward ever. I love her decor. She has a, for lack of a better word, semi-ceiling over the atrium bar which changes different colors every so often, it's great.

All in all, I think you'd have a wonderful time on her. It took me a long time to try another line besides Carnival (I'm a staunch Carnival fan) - but I'm glad I did. At least now I can compare and know what I'm talking about.

Boy DSClark,

You hit the nail on the head about the dinner "entertainment". What is up with the chicks dancing on tables?

Anyway, we are going on our second Glory cruise at Christmas. Loved the Western route.

We have sailed Disney Magic Eastern (a solid 10+)

RCI Vision (a 5.5)

Holland America Zuiderdam (a solid 9)

Carnival Glory Western (also a 9 with the trade off being

service on HAL and kids program on Glory).

Hope this helps,

Punk
